Subject: Why do people hate Reach's campaign so much?

Please don't hype for games...
They'll just fall short of your expectations and you'll complain for months.

Because it has the worst writing AND gameplay of any Halo game. Don't get me wrong, it's a good campaign, but for a Halo game - for Reach of all battles - it did NO justice whatsoever.

Honestly, the writers dug themselves into a hole from the very beginning. The majority of reach was a space battle, and even if it focused on the ground campaign, the battle itself was one day, hardly enough time to get a 6-10 hour campaign in.

You must confront your inabilities
You must adjust to your capabilities

It lacks the sense of an epic like previous halo's.

"I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle- victorious"

Halo reach can never be epic, even with epic sauce.

Without The Flood, I wouldn't know what an opinion is.

I've never been so emotionally disengaged with a character as I have been with the members of Noble Team. The blocks in Tetris had more interesting and unique personalities.

THE S4UCE IS THE B055

Didn't live up to my expectations my scale goes from
1. Halo 3 ODST (Best)
2.Halo 3
3. Halo CE
4.Halo Reach
5. Halo 2
There was no strategy in Reach it was just mostly run and gun

  • 02.07.2012 5:45 PM PDT

nothing can beat ODST!! ODST gave me that feeling of being alone and I was actually a little scared when playing certain parts because of the random enemies that pop out at night. Even Halo 2 and Halo 3 provoked fear in me when i got to the flood levels, and I was scared, scared of a video game!! lol.

But really Reach provided no emotion and barely an introduction. I mean I was just put into a team of 5 spartans and I have no clue who they are. On a side note Kat seems to be a bit rude to you which was a turn off for me in the story. The only good part of the campaign is when the needle rifle pierced Kat's helmet, I felt slight depression at this point but that was all I felt as far as emotions go through the game.

TL;DR - Reach campaign didn't provoke emotion and seemed boring. The story wasn't that great, and I expected this fight to be a lot more epic than it was.

"Angry Angels, Honour & Loyalty!"

I like the Campaign, but there is some things that could be better.
1- From the first till the last character, they suffer from "lack of personality disorder". We care and worship Jonh 117, because he made the decisions and pretty much did what He wanted (Cortana DID gave him some advices, but it was allways Jonh's call).
2- Dumm AI´s. Kat must be worse than an italian cab driver or a phillipine bus driver (no offense), June taks 80% of a joint mission trying to snipe Covenants trough our heads. (and still have the nerve to ask us if we like his "cooking"...)
3- the number 1- goes double for Noble Six, who does not even has a name to go with some background of so-called lone wolf.
(Yeah, a knowned lone-wolf passas the entire game doing exactly what he is told to do...Right...Dr Halsey was right, they WERE puppets, instead of Spartans like Jonh.)

I could continue...but my boss is allready looking at me and I get the strangiest feeling...

I'm a 15 year old stuck in the middle of nowhere. Machinima director, screenplay writer, novelist, jazz musician, and Photoshop junkie.

The whole sense of scale was way too small for a battle like Reach. Not to mention the writing was horrible and broke canon in multiple areas.

Encounters aren't fun. Just challenging. Challenging without fun is -blam!-. H2's campaign was challenging and fun (in a different way. Not as fun as CE) but hindered by damage sponges while the H3's campaign is less challenging and lacking some of the things that made CE fun.

And let's not forget how things can be inconvenient. With each new Halo game, setups (for tricking, launching, AI stuff) become increasingly difficult due to the scarcity of cps, the often dumb AI, the limited grenades, and how things freaking disappear and stuff.

I could go on about how the campaign higher difficulties has become absolutely intolerable and how the friendly AI have worsened, but I'll just put it this way.

Basically, Halo 2 went the wrong way, Halo 3 is the beginning of the end, and Reach killed Halo.

Halo is a linear pos now. So my current stance:

Halo 1 > ODST > Halo 2 >= Halo 3 > Reach

i think reach's campaign is awesome the variety in each mission is cool and fun.

  • 02.08.2012 8:37 AM PDT

I just think the campaign is boring. Plus, I don't have the time to sit there and play through it. Id rather play a few matchmaking games and get on with my day. Actually I don't even think I even started it. All the movies and stuff are too long, boring and annoying. I don't care about the story line.. I just wanna play.

Probably because the game in general isn't that great. The campaign was actually pretty fun though imo

  • 02.08.2012 12:13 PM PDT

actually to be honest i only enjoyed campaign when i didnt have xbox live. i mean i played for hours, maybe days on halo 2 and 3 campaign, and then when i got live i like barely touched campaign. So of course when reach came out i had live so campaign wasnt as fun as matchmaking, but i did enjoy playing it the first time through if that counts.

I'll agree with what some of you said that the objectives sucked.

Halo Reach: Hit button get in a warthog, drive to another button hit it, shoot 5 aliens, hit another button.

Halo 2: Fight through a city full of Covenant, jump off a bridge on to a scarab and destroy it.

Halo 2>Halo Reach

Doesn't mean I didn't like Reach though.

Name's John. I'm a 21-year-old firefighter/EMT from lolhio who doubles as a die-hard Halo fan. I've been enjoying the franchise since 2001. My favorite iteration of Halo would have to be Halo 2 simply because I never got to experience the joy of a full-on Halo: CE LAN.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Oh yeah, and boot Zome.

Reach's was an awful pile of regurgitated dog-blam!-.

The only reason I have more than one playthrough is because of achievement, commendation, and challenge whoring.

Also, Legendary was a joke. I got through it on my first playthrough in like 8 hours. Didn't PP overcharge once.

  • 02.09.2012 10:35 AM PDT

Relax. I'd rather not piss this thing off.

-Master Chief

I havnt found alot of others that hate the campaign, there may be a few things that didnt make since to the other Halo games but remember Halo Reach was a stand alone game.

Reach had a good campaign but the story threads pointed to the potential for it to be maybe the greatest campaign storyline of any halo game. It fell a little short of its potential but that is no reason not to appreciate it for what it is.

  • 02.09.2012 11:05 AM PDT

hi

NOBLE team are idiots. carter just bosses 6 and jorge to do all the work, kat does carters job and runs out into a com bat zone with no shileds, jun just snipes his own teammates, emile shotty snipes and never checks his radar, and holland never does anything.

look at updated stats way better than my old stats.

My DeviantArt Gallery - For my Photoshop stuff, go have a look!

Lots of clear this area- take out anti-air guns, and the whole thing didn't seem like an interesting story, if a story at all until the last 3 missions.
The game had a lot of potential, and they even cut out a lot of good mission ideas, it was decent to play through. But the story just wasn't there.
