Subject: Why do people hate Reach's campaign so much?

Different environments? To me there is really nothing impressive but, I guess its a valid reason.

K.

Balance NPCs? Your teammates? If by balanced you mean useless and stupid yes.

Giving them assault rifles won't do anything. You have to give them a fighting chance. I usually give them snipers or plasma rifles. Even rockets if I'm running low on ammo.

Aerial vehicle missions? Just one? And you have to keep getting out of the helicopter to push some buttons!!! And you in space for like 10 mins. Those to occasions hardly make a good campaing. But whatever, you liked flying.

Well, you didn't even acknowledge The Package or Tip of the spear. I know the aren't exactly fully areal vehicle based missions, but any smart player will grab a banshee.

Glitches? I wouldnt know. I didnt stick around to play it continuously.

K.

Big battles? More like the illusion that you are in a large battle and it even fails at that.

Agreed to an extent. They do throw the enemies around to give a bigger impression, but they are still large scale battles.

Everyone has opinions but, at least you seem to agree that characters and story were terrible.

Absolutely. Stereotypes anyone?

Oh, and the final boss in FFXIII-2 is fcking impossible.

It is just a bland set up with no investment spent on attaching you to the setting or characters.

The fights are bland and small. None of them are truly challenging. And they all just blend together into a soup forgetful.

Oh Hey they have space!

for like 5 minutes, if that.

Hey you can fly a Falcon!

But have to keep getting out everywhere to push buttons.

There is no true vehicle level or encounter designed to provide an epic experience.

We just get told to go everywhere and push buttons on everything.

Evey single level besides the final one has pushing buttons as main objective that your character has to do. It's so boring.

Basically this for me, but with canon rage thrown in. I'm a canon nut and I can't stand that Reach barged on in and stomped on the novels in it's self righteousness and then failed.

Even the mere mention of it pisses me off.

I"m just going to tell you it's called canon. You might want to change that before you get insulted for it.

EDIT: lol

the gun pointed at the head of the universe

Only Swordbase, Long Night of Solace, Exodus, New Alexandria and Pillar of Autumn have real replay value for me, and that's most of them I guess. Plus the epic battle at the end of The Package- use only an assault rifle and... HOLD THE LINE!

Lol I never replay the campaign when I'm finished (hardest difficulty), this applies for all games.

So that means all games have a crappy campaign not just reach. You guys mad?

  • 02.06.2012 11:11 PM PDT

Actually I forgot about the end of The Package (in the glacier bit). That was quite fun.

  • 02.06.2012 11:12 PM PDT

It was fun.. still is. People just need to find something to complain about.

My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

Because it has the worst writing AND gameplay of any Halo game. Don't get me wrong, it's a good campaign, but for a Halo game - for Reach of all battles - it did NO justice whatsoever.

How to blow up the Banshee: By burchie

1. Grab sniper
2. Shoot it 4 times at the most (depending on how much it has been damaged).

Damn, that was difficult.

*bump*

This.

On one hand, as a generic FPS with aliens, a cast of one-dimensional archetypes and the stereotypical 'planet-under-siege' vibe. Reach excels.

As a Halo game where we're given a dark and mysterious storyline filled with dozens of memorable and replayable moments, biblical allegories, references to classic literature (e.g. Divine Comedy in ODST), stellar missions, sublime music and compelling characters, it falls flat on its face.

ODST should have been the 3 year project, they could have done so much more with it. It's about as close to perfect a Halo story has come with the juxtaposition of the audio logs and the main story along with the film-noir atmosphere.

Always up for REACH customs!

I hate that you can't apply all the Firefight custom options to it. Seriously, the coding is there already, so what the -blam!- is with not letting people screw around with custom options once they beat the campaign? If I want to play Exodus with a bottomless Grenade Launcher, I should be able to play Exodus with a bottomless Grenade Launcher.

Halo 2 > Halo 3 > Halo 3 ODST > Halo Reach > Halo CE

Based on campaigns.

I think the Reach campaign is ok, but it has terrible storytelling and a terrible storyline, and the onle missions with replay value are the first and last

I was thinking the same thing, there should be a custom campaign, but it wouldnt give any credits

Real account.

If you assign every letter of the alphabet a number, a is 1, b is 2, etc., and you take all of the values of the word "MATH", and add them, you get 42. So math is the meaning of life, the universe, and everything.

I find it boring.

One of the Founding Fathers of The Jokers Clan.

I have to agree with most of these people here. To simply put it, the Halo Reach campaign is somewhat lacking when compared to the other Halo titles. I feel I as a consumer and loyal fan to bungie and the Halo universe, was robbed. I held Halo Reach in much higher esteem and expectations before it release in regards to the campaign. Don't get me wrong I love the campaign. Its just that the battle for Reach was supposed to be the biggest battle in the Halo universe of the UNSC / Covenant War. The player did not experience the broad scope of that battle, we only witnessed a very narrow view.
For example: Tip of the Spear, when you arrive at the first AA gun. If you notice all the UNSC and Covenant vehicles out in the distance just demolishing eachother, WE AS PLAYERS SHOULD HAVE BEEN APART OF THAT FIGHT!!! Also since Reach is where spartans are created we should have encountered other spartan teams besides Noble team. The only other spartans we encounter besides noble are already dead, you can find them on the Lone Wolf mission.
Reach campaign should have been far more grand than what it is. We all knew long before Reach was released that it was supposed to be an epic battle, cause the battle for Reach was referenced in almost every other Halo game title except Halo Wars. Battle for Reach was very significant.

It was boring. I don't even play it anymore. The characters are boring. The missions are boring. I played Halo 3 campaign nonstop. I still play CE and Halo 2 sometimes. Reach was just boring though.

  • 02.07.2012 2:58 PM PDT

because the same ppl who complain and hate regular reach's multilayer just want another reason to hate the game entirely. If you notice most of the ppl who criticize the campaign dont apply those same criticisms or as harshly to the previous games.

only real genuine critique ive seen of reach's campaign is that it detracted from the canon.

I don't hate the campaign, some of the levels are fun to play. My problem with it is the story and lack of likable characters. Also, I didn't feel like I made much of an impact during the battle. For example, you and Jorge board the corvette to destroy the super carrier and end up destroying it...only to have a whole fleet appear, making your efforts pretty much meaningless. It just seemed like a lot of the objectives throughout most of the game didn't really have an impact.

One of the Founding Fathers of The Jokers Clan.

Perhaps since all Halo relative stuff is now handled by 343industries. Perhaps the might creat a Halo Reach re-visit game title where the player will play a spartan whos a member of anothewr spartan team deployed on Reach when the Covenant attack. Microsoft might give 343 the green light on that project if thay decided to do it. From a publisher's perspective, microsoft wouldn't turn down potential profit $$$.
