I wonder if the reference to the "family hound" in the Cortana letters is a reference to Araqiel, Colonel Ackerson's AI that took it's form as a dog, or dog-like creature, at least. One of the letters says that the other "mindless" AI has "an unhealthy preoccupation with my mother." Maybe it's another reference to Araqiel and Ackerson since Cortana was given Dr. Halsey's personality traits.
Any thoughts?

thats an interesting theory. i have read all three books, and it might be possible. the AI cortana originally based on a cloned brain, dr. halseys brain. it was cloned ten times and only one survived. and that is why cortana has characteristics of halsey, maybe she even looks like her. maybe cloning brains is the only way to create AI's and if, it concurs with your theory.

There was something else in the Cortana letters that caught my attention too. It was in the hidden message. She said something about finding four lost colonies with indigenous humans on them, meaning that they were there to start with, or at least long enough for us to not know any better. It maybe another clue about the Forerunners.
