"This isn't Facebook"

Is it really a bad thing to implement something else that is successful?

I'd rather have a Like system then a page full of people quoting the same person.

Are there any logical reasons why there shouldn't be one?

It kills discussions

How much discussion value is added with quote pyramids with the current system? I'm guessing not too much.

If I am not posting, then I am reading what you might have posted.

Because Bungie doesn't want it.

"You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space." -Johnny Cash

I don't have any logical reasons, but I just would rather not have a system like that.

I thought it would be a nice touch, most people seem to hate the idea though.

I'm not sure it's the right application for a website like this. The purpose of having a "like" feature is to allow the user to find the most popular item in a set of data (statuses, videos, forum posts, whatever) right? But how often is the most popular post actually the post you're looking for in a thread? More often, you may want the post with the correct answer to the OP's question, or whatever post actually continues an otherwise interesting discussion. I think the most popular posts often wouldn't be either of those, just a Monty Python quote, troll, joke, or flame.

For some forums that operate with a bit of a "support" aspect, I'd actually rather see the option for a user to be able to mark a solution to their problem as correct, as in some tech support forums.

Is it that time of month again? "This isn't Facebook" is not a primary argument against this at all. By the way, it's been discussed many times. In fact, so many times that I think the subject is oh so very warn out.

Unfortunately, I see people quoting people without adding any text on forums that do have a 'like' button.

I just don't think this is the right kind of community for that sort of feature.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

I want a "dislike" or a "hate" button.

Wheres Meh Sniper?

Youtube page

I'd rather B.net remain the way it is. I hate the like system because all you get is people copying other people and coming up with the stupid things usually having nothing to do with the original topic.

That's what I use the report button for.

Didn't think of that. That is very true.

Why doesn't Bnet have a like feature? For the same reason we have outdated forums and really old private groups. Because the huge site update hasn't happened yet. Adding something like a Like button prior to that would be silly.

Keep arguing for it, the Web Team is ever listening. Personally I don't care either way.

“Strange,” mused the Director, as they turned away, “strange to think that even in Our Ford’s day most games were played without more apparatus than a ball or two and a few sticks and perhaps a bit of netting. imagine the folly of allowing people to play elaborate games which do nothing whatever to increase consumption.”

The Black Chapter!

I'd like a button that could express much greater range of feeling than simply "like". It would be able to also express dislike, disgust, adoration - anything that the user wanted it to.

What would happen is, the person would hit a button (which for now, we'll call the "reply" button, but that's just an example, I'm not too hung up on the name) and a text box would allow them to input what they wanted to express. When they hit another button (perhaps called "submit"?), this would then appear on the page.

Obviously, this is open to abuse, and would make this site, a gathering place for the Bungie Community, far too similar to a social networking site - but a man can dream...

OP - You're a dumbass with the reading comprehension skills of a second grader.

Can someone tell me what's wrong with these two, this made me LOL hard.

Ever been on the League of Legends forums?

It shows that "power to the people" is a terribad idea.

So, Death or Bungie?

Are we on Favebook now?

It would tarnish the beautiful simplicity of the bnet. People would exploit the system horrendously too.

What's the difference?

  • 02.07.2012 10:12 AM PDT

I acknowledge my user name is stupid. However, I promise I'm not.

Disclaimer: The latter is a lie.

Quoting is a necessity on these forums, so it easier to show who we are replying to. So I don't know how you think a 'like' option could replace that really, mate.

Also, I hope Bungie never implements a 'like' button. The forums would become a pissing contest as to who can get the most 'likes'.
