Subject: Why doesn't Bnet have a like feature?

My name is Tyler. Computers and Video games is what I love to do.

This is an online forum, not a social network. There is no need for a like bar.

Don't animals have free will? They are free too make choices as well?

You can't see the problem with people commenting, replying, and making threads merely for 'likes' rather than actual discussion?

What's up with all the -blam!-ing negativity?
Stop it.

Intelligent people don't like 'Like' buttons.

We need a RAGE button, but I'll settle for a 'Hide user' button.

There's a line between social media and how what they use to discern between popular and unpopular can be integrated into Bungie.net. Most notably are the standards for abuse and how that is combated - while a good idea in general it has to be tailored to Bungie.net is a specific way.

Who the hell do you think I am?

I think that it would lower discussion if people just clicked a simple like button.

Also Guns and Roses are the biggest load of pish-posh ever

A trust rating on users would be more useful, although if it aint blue, its probably lying to you.

How much discussion value is added with quote pyramids with the current system? I'm guessing not too much.

But discussion wouldn't be totally enhanced if users simply replied with posts such as "I like this", ect. At least with this idea, users can like a post/idea without the need for making a one line opinion, which doesn't totally aid in discussion.

I don't have any logical reasons, but I just would rather not have a system like that.

Agreed :)

B.net isn't a social networking site. We're so cool, we don't need to mimic trends, we create them :)

I was once blinded by the strobing, pulsating lights of social networks like Facebook, and, *gasp* Myspace... but then I got a life, and lived it, and didn't feel the need to share the explicit details with everyone, all the time, only to have them 'vote' on these insights as though they were some form of cheap entertainment...

The whole 'like button' thing is just like the Gladiators and Collosseum: Old and antiquated.

Bungie doesn't need these features, nor do it's users. We are the supreme internetweb beings.

We miss you Logan.
Ask any question. I'll help with anything on site or off.

Well, to have a like button you have to like the site.
OT: I do't see the need of one.

Answered your own question OP
What an incredibly stupid reason.

What the -blam!- does that have to do with anything? What's wrong with a feature shared with Facebook? What does it do to diminish Bungie.net? Honestly, this is one of the stupidest constantly used arguments on here since adapt.

Come up with a better one.

It's unnecessary and doesn't promote discussion. Thank god Achronos agrees or I wouldn't be here right now....

Where did he say he agrees? I thought I remembered he wasn't against them.

Edit: Also, it hinders unproductive discussion. "this" posts, QFT's, quote'n'posts, etc. etc.

Discussion like QFT's aren't discussion at all. It's just someone saying the same thing. If there was a way to get rid of those and show approval of a post all in one aesthetically pleasing new feature: why wouldn't you want it?

Also, people don't have to JUST like something. Liking can be used to simply show approval of whatever post the feature is used on. That doesn't mean someone can't also make an on topic post. Just because someone enjoys a particular post in a thread doesn't mean they won't post in that thread.

7/1/09 Bungie Favorites- RECON Devil
9/9/09 Bungie Favorites- Champion

No real need for it. Part of the allure of the Bungie forum for me was how simple it was. No bells and whistles.

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

Because I don't want to see people saying, "If 10 people like this, I'll say I will do something but really won't."
Edit: I'm waiting for Daz to come in here and start arguing for it.

You realize something like that is just as much a spam post as anything else and would be moderated accordingly, right? Soooo, why don't we get rid of polls because sometimes people make biased ones with all the same options. The logic is the same.

So it would just be a feature to allow more spam? I'm sure it could have its main points, but it's pretty inevitable for it to turn out like youtube and facebook where you see tons of posts that are just nonsense from people wanting attention and "likes". Therefore creating more spam which I wouldn't like to see, it would be like youtube with no videos and just the comments.
