Bungie has stated several times "Earths defences are gone."

Now is it just me or does that sound just a little bit off??

The character limit isn't that short. Locked for bumping.

I have a rendezvous with death. At some disputed barricade.

REASONS:

1) In the events preceding Halo 2 MC with the aid of several other Spartans launched an all out attack (First Strike) on one of the Covenant battle platforms the Unyielding Hierophant. This attack destroyed nearly all of the Fleet of Particular Justice.

Each time someone stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope. That hope is three little numbers: 1 - 1 - 7.

There is hope in us all. We gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face. We must do the thing which we think we cannot do; stand with the Master Chief and Finish this Fight!

There is still one defence left, and that has been fighting all along, The Master Chief!

Okay I will reply to that, the Spartan Project object and mission was for the defence of the Earth, like Dr. Halsey put it the Spartans are the last line of defence, they would never stop until they ensured that all the threats that were oposed to the Earths well-being are eradicated. and thats what the Master Chief is all about, he is the last defence that the Earth has to offer.................smartass!!

i do find it hard to believe that most of earth's defenses are gone

i mean how big was the human fleet? they had to of out numbered the covies severely, so the fleet that appeared should have been taken care of quickly

as in the books, when the covies are out numbered badly, they lose, not only that they have mac plateforms so i would say the first fleet definitly lost
however, there was a mention somewhere of a crystal which the prophet of truth posseses that alters time
how long was the chief on delta halo? he could have gotten back to earth on the ship realy fast(this time thing is a side pnt)

well in any case the covie fleet was tearing itself apart so how would the covies have enough ships to immediatly send to defeat earths defenses? not only that, cortana was monitoring the covie transimissions and she probably would have said that they were sending reinforcements to earth if they had

Halo 3: Collapse
Chapter 20, Revelations, is up (update 11-14-10)
The Mirratord

Ω

While successful in ground campaigns, all that the covenant has to do to be victorious is pull back into space and glass the planet from orbit at their leisure. However, this doesn't seem to be their intention for Earth.

Does anyone else think that the argument that there are no more marines just because there are none in the trailer is completely unfounded?

Facts are the enemy of tru7h....

It's not far fetched in the least... The Covenant Fleet is HUGE!... They only reason that the humans gave the Covenant a run for their money in Halo 2 was that Regrets Fleet was a small scout fleet, and even with that the Covenant still managed to capture Earth.

Also Earth is one of the last refuges fo humanity, the Covenant have glassed almost every other human world, including Reach which was supposed to be where the Humans most high tech armory was kept.

The Covenant forces are made up of many races from many worlds. The human forces are just made of humans. It's not at all surprising that humans are losing the battle.
