We've all seen the new advertisement on the right side of the page which links to the Community forum. Sure, it's kinda pointless, but it has given me an idea.

What if every couple of weeks a group was given some time to advertise their group on the right hand side? Groups chosen would be random (unless said otherwise) and the add could be a preset image with a different name or the founder of said group could make one (pending approval by DeeJ or an employee).

What do you think about this?

"At the end of this day one shall stand, one shall fall"

So, Death or Bungie?

Kind of cool, but a little pointless IMO.

I'd be fine with it, but I'm not particularly interested in it.

Groups are dying. Once extremely active groups are merely ghosts of the past. This would (at the very least), increase activity in said groups for a little while.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

What advertisement?

Where the Noble map pack advertisement used to be.

Kind of like the current Group Spotlight. Interesting idea.

  • 02.07.2012 11:24 PM PDT

Listing the group spotlights briefly in the advertisment space, clicking it takes you to the group spotlight...

Yeah, that'd work.

But how long can this feature keep the great groups afloat? Do you think it could really stir some long-term activity in those groups? Or, will the groups rise from their grave only to sink into the sands of time, yet again? I don't know... it might be worth a shot.

I've said this once before: over-populated groups don't need to be advertised nor be in the spotlight. And I still don't understand why it works this way. It makes a lot more sense to post up the groups lacking in numbers. With that being said if this new addition is to advertise the less popular groups, then sure. Otherwise I can take my beloved five seconds and click two buttons to get to the actual group spotlight section.

I suspect llamas are secretly wizards. I <3 poptarts n' milk. I like me. Grimick is defined as: a logical parodox, the act of funnaling a potato down your throat, and a deliciously flavored muffin (with pecons and blueberries). Norway is the Swedish word for 'moron'. My sister has cancer, so i get to use handicap parking and cut small children in line at Disneyland.

"Don't eat doughnuts on thin ice."

"The pancake, my friend, has officially been flipped."

That would be cool, but it sounds like it would be a ton of work for the web team, and they have more important things to do. Besides, bungie's ads are cool ;)

Only 90% of the groups in the spotlight are completely inactive. If the Spotlight isn't revamped, just let groups "earn" ad space based on activity within the group or just let the admin set something up with DeeJ.

Words of wisdom all around, but no one ever seems to listen. The words are all around but the words are only sound. But nobody seems to listen. Instead they'll say, "Well how could we of known?" I'll tell em, "It's really not so hard to tell. keep adding stones, and the water gets lost in the well."

This wouldn't bother me at all. I don't even look at the advertisement. I didn't notice it was changed until it was pointed out.

Hi there! be sure to click that homepage link!

There's an entire system ready for this, but it'll be too much, trust me. Although, I think it's a good idea.

I acknowledge my user name is stupid. However, I promise I'm not.

Disclaimer: The latter is a lie.

Maybe. Seems like an OK idea.

Stupidity, when sufficiently advanced, is indistinguishable from magic

Seems like there aren't enough "alive" groups for this to work.

Only a few active groups remain. I'm all for this, as it would rekindle the life that the groups once had.

Well it would certainly boost numbers in the short term. If the group is committed, they could make it last.

Hmm... I don't deny that it would greatly help a committed group. But if the group was committed, shouldn't they be able to commit to looking for new members without the help of an advertisement?

Perhaps it will work by restoring the interest of the older members and leaders of the group so that they can latter make the spark to set the group ablaze again...

  • 02.08.2012 10:38 PM PDT

Generalizations.
Helping idiots hate other idiots since people have existed.

Cool idea.

But there'd have to be some standards set. After all, there are a LOT of dead private groups out there. Perhaps a minimum member and activity limit? Not sure how that would work, though.
