In a little experiment I ran maybe a year or so ago, I made the same thread three times (a week apart from each), but changed my avatar each time.

What I found was that if I had the "Default" avatar, my threads were filled with off topic nonsense, anger and accusations of trolling. When I had my avatar as my "Halo 3 model", I was insulted on my Halo 'stats' - regardless if they could see them or not. When I had my avatar as one of the normal ones, I found that my topic was taken a lot more seriously and positively than it was with the default avatar.

I had this written up in notepad but never posted it... So I guess I am now.

So Community, do you judge a user by the avatar that they're using?

READ IT.

I won the Star. With this on Week 18.

Nope. I do not care about the avatars...

Only a little, but it doesn't change my response.

If I am not posting, then I am reading what you might have posted.

If I did it would be very minimal and I hardly judge people, but when I do it maybe because of what they are saying or arguing.

No, an avatar.. is just an avatar to me. I care more about what they have written than what their avatar is.

  • 02.08.2012 7:16 AM PDT

I judge people on what they post. I do recognise some people from their avatar though.

If there's one thing I've learned over the years it's that -blam!-s with that halobabies Cortana avatar never post evidence for anything. Where are these threads?

For some reason I didn't save the threads. You'll have to take my word for it... or not. Don't really care either way as it doesn't change the main point of this thread.

I can't take the word of someone with such a poor choice of avatar.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

There are so many halo avatars.

I like my Ghol, I was a Trow but a lot of people use that.

I notice how a certain avatar does become's assosiated with a certain user.

I have seen you future

I don't judge a user based on their avatar. An avatar is just something to make it easier to identify you by. I do identify a user based on their avatar though, so if I am scrolling through a page and notice an avatar I am always shocked if it isn't the person who I associate the avatar with.

That is why I change my avatar from time to time, mix things up a little and not have people be like }yep" and already know who's post it is.

Funny thing is I have actually had people PM me asking why i changed my avatar or for me to change my avatar back, LOL.

If I might do the unthinkable and make a vaguely on topic post:

I do judge people by avatars. It's a more accurate gauge than you think. You can usually judge when a member came to this site by what their avatar is.

Player models are guys who came here with Halo 3 and they probably post in the Halo 3 or Reach forums, they have been migrating slowly to the other forums since bungie went dark. I'd say, generally, they are younger users.

Halo 2 and 3 emblems are older users, they probably mostly frequent the septagon and the flood, they've been around a while, users of this era tend to just post "witty" one liners and then no more. I feel that emblems are classier than the player models, and the users of emblems are probably more sophisticated and discerning than the player model users.

Users with the other avatars are probably harder to judge, but for the most part you're judging between different types of nerds. But they tend to be here, not for Halo stats, but for actual discussion, probably they tend to post more in the Flood or Groups.
Users with Reach artwork are annoying, little kids
Users with Halo 3 artwork are annoying, slightly older kids
Users with Halo 2 artwork are cynical, elitist, older kids
Users with Halo CE artwork are adults who should know better
Users with Myth artwork are people who've never even played myth but think they look all cool and fantasy like, these are the spotty, no friends, kids
Users with bungie stuff are wannabe mods and circle-jerking septagon -blam!-s
Users with the default avatar are, until proven otherwise, alt accounts here to troll me

People with custom avatars are -blam!-s.

n.b. obviously there are some exceptions, but until proven to be not the case this is how I judge people.

Only if they are using a dirty Halo 2 emblem.

LOL, there are a lot of people who don't know what Myth is but that is being a little harsh. Many people choose ab avatar becuase it looks cool.
