I do not judge people by their avatars. I fix computers at work though and I do judge people by their account pictures and backgrounds....

Only regret is I didn't play more of it.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm sort of a jerk.

I only use the avatars as a means to identify people, when I'm quickly skimming threads (to see who said what without reading a username).

Nope. I do not care about the avatars...

I don't consciously judge them, but I've noticed that I'm more likely to hate people with the default, teabagging, and the frightened marine avatars than anyone else. If you have a non-Reach emblem as an avatar, I noticed I'm more likely to like you.

Got a question, comment, or concern? PM me.

I always imagine people have the same expression when they post as the expression of the person in their avatar.

I dunno, guess I am just weird like that.

I do the same thing.

A user's avatar is the last place I look when judging them.

Hello, I'm Mr AwesomePizza. I like pizza and I'm a man. Reasoning for the name. I like to listen to the classics of music, write poetry, play video games, and much much more. I'm always down for a nice chat, so please hit me up for some conversation.

No, that is like judging someone by their shoes. It doesn't matter and really show who they are as a person.

Your experiment is flawed competently.

It depends on the people who are on, their mood, your subject, the day events.

I never said that it was a comprehensive experiment. Think of it as an observation.

Shoes say a lot about the person who is wearing them.

You imply a level of control over Halo: Reach matchmaking that we no longer have. Or, in your vernacular, it isn't our shiznit anymore.

I agree. The only reason my avatar is a Halo Reach custom avatar is because I like the emblem artwork, it has nothing to do with my opinion on the game.

Citizens of Me! The cruelty of the old Pharaoh is a thing of the past. Let a whole new wave of cruelty wash over this lazy land.

Hear the word of Pharaoh. Build unto me a statue of ridiculous proportion. One billion cubits in height......that I might be remembered for all eternity!

And be quick about it!

I associate certain avatars with trolls because trolls use certain avatars a lot. I don't judge members based on that though.

The only thing that avatars do IMO is change the voice I hear whenever I read what each user has posted.

Nope, I do not judge a person by their avatar choice.

Sounds like when I went to this semester's calc class the first day with a full beard and long hair. People acted very different to me when I came in a week later with short hair and cleanly shaven.

You know our motto, We deliver!

Sometimes I do a litte. If it is a Myth or Marathon avatar, I tend to think that the user is older. But I only judge people by their avatars a little but it doesn't really affect what I write.

@spaboolly

Your experiment is somewhat flawed, OP. You did three versions of the experiment, but each time more than one variable was changed. The people posting were no doubt different each time, and different people will obviously react in different ways.

But no, I don't think I consciously judge people by their choice of avatar. There's not much to judge. If it were a site where people can upload whatever they want as their avatar, that might be a different story. But since our choices are limited it doesn't really say much about the person using it.

It does bother me when people change their avatars though. My photographic memory gets very accustomed to associating people with the little pictures next to their posts.

  • 02.09.2012 4:13 AM PDT

I do associate the default avatar with trolls, but I'll still read the post before final judgement. Other than that there are a few notable avatars that I associate with well known members.

No.

I would like to amend this statement.

Some peoples coups just go too far. You can tell a lot about a person by the way they customize their coup. At one point I had to block at least 25 people. Sometimes it can be downright ridiculous.
