Subject: Just finished CE:A for the first time ever.

Well slap my balls and call me Santa, I've got lizard tits!

So...how did this become the award winning masterpiece everyone makes it out to be?
I mean, it was good.
But It wasn't amazing imo.

"At the end of this day one shall stand, one shall fall"

So, Death or Bungie?

If you were 10 years older when Halo CE came out you would have been amazed.

Ten years ago, the game was revolutionary stuff. In fact, it's amazing that a ten year old game still feels modern. it just goes to show you how big of an impact Halo has had.

I guess since I only started playing Halo at Halo 3 and then Reach CE:A just didn't feel like Halo to me...
weirdly.

Yeah, that's the problem.

I still have my original copy of Halo: CE and I play it from time to time. I can't tell you how awesome it was to storm the beach on Cartographer for the first time. Pretty awesome stuff.

OH MY GOD YES! That was the most action packed moment I had ever played in a video game! I remember at 7 years old playing that level over and over again just to play the beginning part!

@OP, What did you think of the campaign? Most Halo fans regard it as the campaign of the decade.

As I expected it to be really. I thought it was good and I can kinda see how people would love it. But since I already know how it ends well...

How can it not feel like Halo if it's what started Halo?

10 years ago, CE was a masterpiece combining an elegantly woven story of mystery and grandeur with fantastic gameplay and sublime music. To this day, it still remains one of the best FPS games on the market.

Don't do anything you wouldn't want to have to explain to paramedics. Trust me, I'm a pilot.

For me, nothing beat the original Halo. I remember being seven years old and storming the beach on Silent Cartographer. Then there was The Library, which always kept you on edge. I absolutely love Halo CE, and take it out every once and a while to play some multiplayer with friends. Nothing, in my opinion, beats Halo CE.

[*Please note that anything in my posts is likely to be filled with sarcasm, and should be taken with a pinch of salt. I tend to help people, usually*]

I can't imagine how confused and lost someone would be playing Halo 3 before any of the other Halos.

"Hey a pretty night sky....hey...is that a shooting star? Oh look, something fell off of it. OH GOD IT'S COMING RIGHT FOR ME"

And then you play the rest of the game as an angel fallen from a shooting star that everyone happens to know, humanity wants to help and aliens mistake for a demon.

I could never play something in non-chronological order. I feel sorry for you, McCool, you might never truly appreciate what made Halo special all those years ago, but put it this way: Halo is what made console shooters what they are today.

At least you'll be here for the start of Bungie's next game, which is supposed to break boundaries in the same way.

Haha! I've had the plot grounded into my mind for the past 10 years, I'd never even imagined how Halo 3 must have looked to a newcomer who hadn't played CE and 2. :P

We’re flawed because we want so much more. We’re ruined because we get these things and wish for what we had.

You pretty much just described how my pall Alex looks at Halo.
OT: If you were their for the full ten years you would appreciate it much more.

I'm guessing you never played the original CE?

  • 02.08.2012 4:28 PM PDT

If you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, I'll always lend an ear.

I hate to break it to ya. But it's one of those generation games where you just had to be in that time period to truly appreciate how good this game was.

Much like Half-Life, Goldeneye 64 etc. It just doesn't play the same when you have more modern games to compare it to.

It's like H2 online days. People will -blam!- and whine when recalling H2 online days, but they will always remember that at it's time this was revolutionary and those days were truly buzzin

I'm gonna have to agree. Halo:CE feels like Halo, Halo:CEA does not. It's the art direction, I just felt like something was off when I was playing it.

Please don't hype for games...
They'll just fall short of your expectations and you'll complain for months.

Ok, can someone please explain to me why everybody loves the silent cartographer?

I mean, the battle on the beach was fun. However, a ten minute battle does not, at least for me, justify the 45-75 minutes of running around in circles on that god-forsaken island. It's probably one of my least favorite missions in the game.

I love the direction they went with the art in CEA, the Control Room looks absolutely stunning, the lighting in the levels was simply beautiful. It all looks exactly as I'd hoped it would, I don't see what the problem is that people have with the art.
