The state of any society is the end result of the collective population. What that forum needs is more people willing to click the REPORT button when rules are broken. Sometimes you may be unsure of whether a violation is actually being committed. That's okay, click it anyway. It takes x-amount (only a few people know this variable) of people clicking REPORT for a post to get flagged. Only one click per person registers. Report>Refresh>Report>Refresh>Report, will just wear out your buttons. Just click it anyway and if x-amount of people agree, it gets flagged and a Ninja can address the issue at his discretion.

I'm also in favor of harsher punishments for even the slightest stuff like "cool story bro" or any other off topic ramblings. If someone has nothing to contribute to the discussion, then they should GTFO and go somewhere else.

Just my opinion. Bottom line: More people need to click REPORT. Imagine living in a town where nobody ever called the cops for anything. That's what the Flood is like sometimes.

"You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space." -Johnny Cash

I don't thunk that it's reasonable to carpet ban the whole thread. Even if it's obvious, some people may not see it.

I agree with what you have said and enjoyed reading commentary from a like-minded individual, brother.

Everyone is entitled to their own wrong opinion.

I'm part of the Bungie.net Minecraft group/server called SeptaCrafters
We're a Bungie.net group that goes to our very own Bungie server. Most players are from the Halo community either off Bungie itself or through word to Halo friends.

I think spam threads should be carpet banned, but yes obvious ones.

Why not nuke it?

2 more reasons:
- The Flood is awesome.

- If you remove the Flood then users will spam other forums. Add in the Flood is probably the most active forum on this site right now and you'll anger a large percentage of forum users by removing it.
So?

By the way, I wouldn't say The Flood is awesome.

Why do so many people who venture into this forum think that the Flood is some out of control monstrosity that has to be nuked to save the site? The Flood has it's fair share of threads that do not belong but so does this one. And the Universe. And Reach and every other forum on this site.

The Flood is doing just fine with the moderation it gets now.

It did have an effect, it pissed me off when I got banned for small things.
Posted by: x Foman123 x
Quick two-sentence history lesson: We have done this before. It had zero effect whatsoever.
lololol.... yeah exactly... the only effect it had was to piss off users who generally follow the rules but sometimes just got caught up posting in threads that some other guy should never have created in the first place.
I'm glad somebody finally admits that.

You want to fix The Flood? Go use it for what it's meant for. Lead by example. Show them how it's done. If you have a problem with the quality of the threads that are being created, do better.

Right now, the useless threads outnumber the good ones. To change that ratio, you have two options. You can eliminate the bad threads or you can simply increase the number of good ones. Which of those options are we, as the community, capable of implementing on our own?

I really like that, had to quote it. Being a proactive member, making "good" threads, and not getting crazed by the 'way of the web' is always, always going to be the best way to enjoy the Internet. Trying to control forums drives the best intentioned people nuts.

I acknowledge my user name is stupid. However, I promise I'm not.

Disclaimer: The latter is a lie.

Ethical issues on Bungie.net? Roflcopter.

OT: I don't like your idea. The Flood should be treated intricately with a scalpel, and not forcefully with an axe.

The Flood is a popular, OFF-TOPIC forum. I Rather enjoy it and a strike on it would not be very ethical or fun for the Flood users.

smart, interesting, seems out of place.

Official fan of Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, (Problem with that?) Halo, and Bungie, also a total gaming junkie.

I was in a carpet ban once... It changes you man, it changes you.

Also, I like this idea. It'd give the mods and the members of Waahmbulance some laughs.

Honestly i am somewhat in support of this. There are so many parody threads and shock site threads going on right now in the Flood that people are posting in. Perhaps, if things such as parody threads and shock site threads were dealt with higher punishments, then people would stop spamming them or posting in them.

BBB, you know me, and know that for the most part really try.

But like I said way before, if I see in yellow and orange text that the problem is me, then I am man enough to own up to that. I am trying to be less sensitive to the goings on in the dear Flood.

Cena is back on the Flood... =[

You should have acted.
They're already here.
The Elder Trolls told of their return.
Their defeat was merely delay
Til the time after The flood opened,
When the sons of Flood would rage in their own threads.
But no-one wanted to believe.
Believe they even existed.
And when the truth finally dawns:
It dawns in bans.
But,
There's one they fear.
In their tongue, he's Trollahkiin:
JohnCena!

For the Troll!
For the Troll!
For the sake of The Flood!
For our posts, for our threads
For JohnCena's blood
For the Trolls and for the Flood,
For the sole single son
JohnCena, our king, who'll dawn with meatspin!

I respectfully disagree. At times the, (if troll isn't the right word then what is) immature people are unbearable. Its like trying to have a conversation in a rowdy bar. But if no one else sees a problem but me, it must be me. I am man enough to accept that.

I hear ya, Charlie. If they really grind your gears, I'd suggest using the Bungie Ignore System. It's a script Iggyhopper wrote up for Greasemonkey. I can confirm it does work on Chrome as well. If someone bothers you and the mods don't lock it down right away, you can just hit the dropdown arrow to the right of "More" and check the "Ignore User" box.

Their posts are then minimized, not dismissed entirely. That should keep the yelling down to a dull roar. Hope it helps!

The problem with The Flood is there's not enough problems. I rely on The Flood for late night entertainment, and when I enter that void to see NOTHING... well, I go full cry-hard.

It is possible to commit no errors and still lose. That is not a weakness. That is life.

Cheeto is the only one among you that doesn't suck.

I don't get what the community forum's fascination with changing the flood is. The flood has been the way it is almost since it was first created. It hasn't changed a bit, and won't change in the foreseeable future.

Furthermore, there isn't anything to fix. It's an off topic forum. Sure, there are going to be spam posts, trolls, and what not. But it's not that bad. There are forums on the internet, hell, even on this site, that are so much worse than the Flood, it's not even funny.

The true problem is that people are trying to be forum police a little too hard, and are incapable of enjoying themselves.

Let the moderators do their job. If you see something truly bad, report it and move on. Otherwise, just enjoy the forums without trying to reinvent everything or change the nature of the Flood.
