The reason you can't has to do with security - same reason why you can't change your Live ID on bungie.net.

Maybe at some point. I might also be able to bypass the security problem on changing names by allowing Bungie Pro users to change their bungie.net user names every so often. The Live ID issue is more tricky, because of several external factors.

With Bungie Pro gone, is there still any potential for this? Just letting us change it once every few years doesn't sound bad. I don't know how hard it is to implement this, but Achronos suggested it which means he must know how.

For a lot of members, how ridiculous our usernames is drives us insane. How does my username identify me as myself? It doesn't, maybe it did 3 1/2 years ago but definitely not now. Even if we're only given the option to change it ONCE, that would be all I could ask for, this way all those 13 year old kids that grew up don't have to cringe their toes anymore. I know some members love their username, and I wish I could say the same, but mine doesn't even seem decent, and I've just been sitting by waiting to hear I would be able to change it.

We're going into a new era of B.net, so why not start the era with fresh usernames, like we're starting over? Maybe let members change their username ONLY within the first week of the next B.net update?

Can we just get some clarification on what's going down on this subject? That quote is 3 years old...

Who the hell do you think I am?

If the feature is ever available, I wouldn't use it.

I love my username!

Also, with Bungie Pro going down I'm pretty sure that chance of that happening is very slim.

"I don't care if it's God's own anti-Son of a -blam!- Machine or a giant hula-hoop!"

I sort've hope we get 1 "free" name change. I've been with this one so long it's sort of grown on me though... and I can barely even remember the inside joke that sparked it.

Why not stop by my File Share while you're here?

Only regret is I didn't play more of it.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm sort of a jerk.

I'd use it, I hate my username.

Ugh...

First on a BWU.. yeah, I'm cool.

ODST;MYTHIC Screenshot winner! One of the first to get their hands on the mythic map pack.

I think the allowing Bungie Pro members to change their username every once in a while was purely for profit. There was a demand for changing usernames, there was a service on Bungie.net you could subscribe to for money (Bungie pro).

To give members incentive to subscribe to this service, Achronos and the online team were probably considering, or giving it thought to add this feature (changing of the username every once in a while) so that more users would subscribe to the service, making Bungie more profit.

With Bungie Pro being gone, I don't think this feature will be implemented, unless you pay for it.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I personally want the ability to change sign in information.

If I am not posting, then I am reading what you might have posted.

I would pass on the feature, but am pretty sure people with silly usernames that have a bunch of unnecessary numbers would like it.

:D

I swear they said Bungie Pro would be coming back eventually.

^^It might come back once, their new game releases.

I wouldn't use it unless I actually changed my gamertag on XBL. I like my bungie.net username being the same as my gamertag.

I remember reading something like that, or they said something like Bungie Pro will be coming... I don't know. Something.

If I could change my handle to "Sven" I'd be happy, but it's taken, haha. If inactive accounts were deleted, like the current "Sven", upon the arrival of the new site I'd change it in a second.

We're going into a new era of B.net, so why not start the era with fresh usernames, like we're starting over? Maybe let members change their username ONLY within the first week of the next B.net update?I hope something like this will happen.

Ask smart questions

Yeah, that would be nice, hopefully when Bungie.net gets independent from Passport.net.

Though I guess it matches my lowercase gamertag as well...

I really don't mean to bag on you, man. But I couldn't contain my laughter when I read your username after I read your grammatically correct post.

"Ordinary love is selfish, deeply rooted in desires and satisfactions. Divine love is without condition, without boundary, without change."
You are all loved beyond measure.
I, like you, am a light-sound-vibration complex that resonates with others. I have hopes and dreams and ambitions, just like you! I AM, and so are you! Yes, we are one and the same, you and I.

I fully support this for the reasons the TC stated. I would hate having to be stuck with my first bnet username. People have a right to create an identity for themselves and if that's changed it's a fair request to be able to change it once in a while.

Yea, or maybe we're just slowly going crazy with our old account age.

Heavy weighs the crown, low hangs the head who wears it.

My Bungie.net name will remain the same as my GT.

I do believe Bungie pro will return, but I wouldn't count on the functionality in question. I believe they have more important items to focus their attention on.

Well, bungie Pro isn't gone gone. It'll be back for the new game, it's just MIA since Bungie's done with Reach. It's still possible username changes will be possible through Pro down the line.
