If you can read this, you are looking at my signature

I could use a name change, My username is coo and all but doesn't reflect 95% of my other users on the web.

  • 02.09.2012 2:23 AM PDT

It would be nice to get rid of the 2000.

  • 02.09.2012 3:36 AM PDT

I acknowledge my user name is stupid. However, I promise I'm not.

Disclaimer: The latter is a lie.

I'd pay to change my username. I really, really would.

"You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space." -Johnny Cash

Well Bungie has hinted that there will be something replacing Bungie Pro in the future, so maybe this idea can be implemented into whatever Bungie has in mind.

People judge you by what you write, not what your name is.

Two things:
-That's irrelevant.
-Yes, some people do.

The reason I WANT my name changed is because I'm tired of people calling me a noob when I do something minor, or laughing when I tell them my username. And EVEN if nobody cared that my username was stupid, I personally hate it anyway beyond any username I've ever chosen for myself.

If there is your former username should be also written

So
{New Username}|Rank a.k.a {Old Username}

It shall be like this till 2 years after new username has been used. Old username shall be removed after this 2 year period with only 1 new username.

"I have no words that would do justice to the atrocities you commit to the English language, as well as your continued assaults on the concepts of basic literacy and logical reasoning."

Actually, the suggestion of tying it to Bungie Pro was because I thought that we'd want to gate it. It isn't about making money, it is about making sure an anonymous griefer isn't constantly changing his name. If he's a Bungie Pro subscriber, he wouldn't have been just another anonymous user.

We've moved on from that line of thinking a while ago, though. User Identity is a bigger problem that needs more than just a bandaid solution. But rest assured that the inflexibility of login names has been part of our thinking in this area; your complaints have been heard.

I think the allowing Bungie Pro members to change their username every once in a while was purely for profit. There was a demand for changing usernames, there was a service on Bungie.net you could subscribe to for money (Bungie pro).

To give members incentive to subscribe to this service, Achronos and the online team were probably considering, or giving it thought to add this feature (changing of the username every once in a while) so that more users would subscribe to the service, making Bungie more profit.

With Bungie Pro being gone, I don't think this feature will be implemented, unless you pay for it.

Bye.

Now I ain't no big city computer sciencer...but would allowing users to change their user names mess up the forums? Just like moving posts messes up threads? Or am I making mountains out of mole-hills?

And the Shadow fell upon the Land, and the World was riven stone from stone. The oceans fled, and the mountains were swallowed up, and the nations were scattered to the eight corners of the World. The moon was blood, and the sun was as ashes. The seas boiled, and the living envied the dead. All was shattered, and all but memory lost, and one memory above all others, of him who brought the Shadow and the Breaking of the World. And him they named Dragon.

Is it possible to only allow username changes for a limited amount of time (like stated in my OP) or just giving a user one name change per account?

I'm sure ways to track name changes for all moderators would need to be implemented, but maybe a good alternative is to allow users with a certain amount of Trust Points change their name. This should make it a lot easier to keep track of people trolling and changing their names.

Then again, I have no room to talk since I sent Achronos a PM about the same thing. >.<

Glad to hear it's in the works, thanks Bungie.

To be honest, I don't know any other forum that allows you to change your username. I probably wouldn't use the feature even if we could, I've grown attached to my username.

How about you can pay about 5 bucks to change it (which will increase your profit) or allow a free one every once in a while. On the individuals profile, it will show their past user names so you can keep track or you can alternate between the names, so the original will always exist.
