Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

Bungie.net's total post count (including private groups) has surpassed 70,000,000 posts as of now. My god, that is a lot of posts. I mean a lot. In just 9 months, Bungie.net users have posted over 10-million times. That's -blam!- crazy! Mozeltov everyone!

Now, how the hell can Bungie.net's servers hold seventy-million posts? I'm curious how many servers Bungie has dedicated to forums alone; it must be a ridiculous amount.

I have seen you future

We did it!

Also, whenever I try to find the post I get an error, so it's probably in a group, anybody know which group it was in?

Awesome! Bungie.net must have really strong servers to be able to hold that many posts.

That would be cool to be the 77,777,777 post on bungie.net.

I imagine the fileshare videos, screenshots, game feedback to developers, matchmaking data etc is far more load for Bungie (now 343i).

70,000,000 is not a very high number for SQL databases. Particularly as most of it is plain text.

Concurrent connections and indexing is more the load to cater for on Bnet I imagine.

e.g. 10,000,000 / 270 days (30 days x 9 months to get a quick approx. day value) = 37,0038 posts per day.

37,000 posts per day / 1440 minutes in a day = approx. 26 posts per minute everyday.

Sure there are peak times so these figures are not terribly accurate but it gives you a simple indication that the load is not insane when compared to game data.

Now think of the load on serving all those pages and content to the forums viewers. Tons more just read and browser, I wonder what those statistics are like...

I came for Halo, but I heard the Tru7h, fought thru Carnage, and stayed for Bungie.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

While that is a lot of posts, I doubt it takes up a significant amount of server space or computing power. Back in 2007, when we were at like 20 million, Achronos said that all the forum data only took up about 2 gigs of space. The Webteam seemed to design the system well, so that only text is cached past the CSS, so there's not really that much data to process and archive.

I don't know what the game data did during Reach, but during Halo 3 Sawnose said that they processed something like 20 petabytes a month of stats and fileshares and other peripheries.

So, I'm gonna take an uneducated guess and say all the forum data only take like 10GBs at most, and the game data peaked at like 25 PBs. So while 70 million is an awesome milestone, I doubt its taxing the network at all.

-edit-

Though that we apparently saw 10,000,000 in just the last 9 months really surprises me. Bungie is dark, the game forums are crawling, this forum is about as busy as it always was, and the Flood isn't that busy either. The groups must be humming along at a pace unimaginably fast. That surprises me. So much so, that I'm doubtful as to the data itself.

Look at the address bar. It should say something like postID=70000034 somewhere. This is the post identification number for the original post in this topic. This number can also represent normal posts (like this one) and therefor represents the number of posts altogether.

Yes, I sort of figured that part out. But how do we know this includes private groups?
