Subject: The Community Forum: Fixing Bungie.net

Intolerance is the highest level of stupidity and inbred thinking.

MI: 5213901 UI: 5244621

Hello, and good evening to my fellow Community members. I've been thinking a lot as of late, and I think that I've developed the perfect idea to making Bungie.net a better place for all of its users.

This idea, is so incredibly simple, and perfect, I can't believe no one has ever thought of it before. I mean, if I do say so myself, it's pure genius! Well, I think, no, I take that back, I know, that the Webteam should implement a mandatory seven month posting period in the Community Forum.

What does this mean exactly? It really is so simple. Upon creating an account, users can forget having to wait 24 hours before making a thread. That doesn't solve anything! We still have trolls and flamers, and the such, so clearly it doesn't work. Instead, upon new account registration, every member is restricted to only being able to read/post/create threads in the Community Forum for the first seven months of their Bungie.net existence. Mandatory probation in the Community forum if you will. Then after the seven months, and only after, can they even see the other forums.

Now, I know you're already thinking "Man, Rollin is such a genius", already, but all good arguments have proof, so wait until you hear my reasoning before showering me in flowers and medals.

The Community Forum has this wonderful ability of problem solving that all forum users would benefit from adopting. I mean, their logic, it's it's flawless! Take for example, our biggest problem on this website... The Flood. Full of all of its trolls and flamers, and plain old undesirables. It is a corrupting experience on all of the users on this website, and the Community forum has a cure! Well, when dealing with any kind of rash, the best course of action is to just vaporize the patient! No point in risking the rash spread elsewhere, no. That'd be a risk not worth taking. But, you may ask your self, how do we vaporize the Flood? Simple. A 50 Megaton Tactical Warhead. ;D

Now, of course not everyone is so level headed, no sir. Some of the users amongst us are a little more... "radical", but they are still close enough, and their intentions are proper. These "radicals" feel that we'd be better off treating the affected areas just by amputating the affected limbs. No use in keeping undamaged tissue. There's the potential the rash could spread to it, so we kill it through carpet bombs. I mean, all those new and "innocent" users who fell prey to those bad threads have already started down the path of trolling and flaming themselves, just by making the "mistake" of posting in those threads. No, I say we eliminate these users as quickly as possible. Just confuse them and scare them off. Drive them out before they become problems themselves!

And that's just how we feel we should deal with the Flood. I mean, we have ideas to fix everything. How about dealing with trolls using multiple accounts? Well, let's bring back that Tac Nuke! If we hit their IPs, we can just ensure that those individuals never come back again. Forget College campuses. We all know that one rotten apple spoils the whole barrel.

So, as my argument proves, forcing every new member (and, why not old members too), to a seven month probation to the Community Forum will be the best thing possible. This kind of experience will breed a like minded community that will in turn deal with all problems in a similar, and truly superior method. Complete, and total obliteration. Take no prisoners my comrades. Forget the ointments, the precision surgical equipment, and never remove a bad apple from a barrel. Urge your webteam to create a community that will protect itself the only proper way. Grab your keyboard, grab those nukes, and spread the glorious love that is the Community forum, and never, ever, ever, try to set a proper example in the forums. As we all know, that, would be insane.

I like it Rollin. :)

Too bad I am a traitor to the Bungie community.

What I really wanna know is who's beard would win in a fight, Sage's or Urk's?

I NEED TO KNOW.

3 months is enough. While still possibly dysfunctional, a user can be an adjusted and functional member of whichever forum(s) they choose to be a part of.

I started up again posting around July (after not posting for a while and having picked up all my bad habits again) and around October or November (I think) I was well adjusted to the manner and quality expected here in the 'Gon.

Plus, I have a feeling Septagon regulars are more likely to ignore JohnCena, ShaneDawson, Jane, etc. posts.

While some people will complain because they think the flood is fine as it is (it isn't), I agree with your sentiment OP.

It's fun to explain our opinions instead of just saying things without anything to back them up.

Edit 2: Also, posting in the 'Gon above all other forums is probably the best way to break the habit of typing like everything is a text/IM. Posting in the Flood would serve as an enabler of said habit.

We're concerned

Cafe|MLP: FiM|Bnet Regulars|FCAW
Got a question, comment, or concern? PM me.

Even though it may seem it, The Flood is not the life and blood of Bnet. Developers need feedback from their community more than anything (Or so I am told, as I am not a video game developer), and you can't really give feedback when you have to wait 7 months just to tell them one thing they might not even see.

I really don't see trolling as that big of a deal anyways. Someone said something mean about you on the internet, who cares? Report and move on. It isn't like as soon as they post something you HAVE to reply to it.

Instead of spending all day coming up with convoluted schemes to stop "trolling", how about people actually gain common sense and not reply.

EDIT: I Didn't realize you wanted to confine them here. Well, my point still stands. I don't want there to be more "trolls" than there needs to be over here.

EDIT:EDIT: The irony of this is that the OP is probably trolling...

I really dont see why other forum-goers have a problem with the Flood.
It prevents spam and the such from being posted in other forums and people would sign up to this site and realize that the Community Forum was the only place they could post in would either make them leave thus decreasing Bnet's population or it would cause them to post their spam in the Community and soon there would be so many random topics floating around in the Community Forum that dont belong there that new users would think that their topics do go in the Community forum when in reality they might actually need to go into the Halo 3 forum. This is much like the Universe forum now what with all the gameplay threads being posted in it when there should really only be dicussion of canon or story elements.

You are Destiny.

There is no but! I believe Elitism is a fine and dandy thing. Members of lower status are there for a reason, and should be inferior to members of higher stature. And of course, the only way to judge the quality of a member is through their title bar.

Honestly, a regular dose of elitism is just what a new member needs to be able to get into the spirit of Bungie.net.

What do you want me to explain, the fact that this is a shocking idea if taken seriously or that IP bans don't work at all?

The only way to stop the Flood is to starve them to death, and that's exactly what reporting and ignoring is designed to do: wipe the forums clean of all trolls with no life.

I support this idea. but 3 months would be better.

Maybe the mods should be alot harder too. now I rarely post here. but I post alot in a Norwegian forum called Freakforum. and as of today it has over 50k members.
They have what some would label -blam!-mods. The forum is free from trolls, spammers and other stupidity (stupid questions are allowed tho).
By being hard and direct the mods can keep a forum that revolves around Computers, political discussion, drugs, pyrotechnics, IT, games and Even the people doing shrooms, crack and meth civil, respecting and make sure they know how to write a good argument.
