Subject: Fall Damage Yay or Nay on HAL0 3.

It shouldn't be in. Look at the level design in Halo 2. There were no large gaps. There was no expanse. They were not epic in scale. Shoot, even Sidewinder wasn't that big. Fall damage broadens that ability to make levels. You can make bigger levels because you can enable people to access different areas quicker. Honestly, imagine playing Headlong without fall damage. And don't just start arguing right away that it would be better. How many times have you dropped from the top to the bottom to stop someone from getting away with the flag? How many times have you had to leap off of the walkway into the open area below to take out a bomber, or perhaps destroy a tank? Without fall damage, these dynamics are possible.

I think fall damage for Halo 3 is the way to go. But perhaps not as strong as it was in Halo 1. Basically if its obviously too high of a height to jump from (super jumpers beware) then you'll die. If its not quite as far (think about the height of the ledges on headlong...) then make it so it will only take some of the players shield away. That way it adds a new layer to the game. Running away is a bit harder to do. (Which will make you have to think more... is it worth jumping to get away? Should you stay and finish the fight?) It gets rid of super jumpers (assuming something like that would be found again) In the end I think adding a little fall damage would be a good thing...

And yeah, Opey could probably win that game without using his BR. Best SMG user in Halo.

I think the maximum that a fall should take off is complete shields. It shouldn't kill you though.

I like that idea. Just have a big fall act as an Overcharge shot. Shields gone but not dead yet.

Say, that's a good idea! I like it. I voted for fall damage, but that works too! Helps get rid of some major balance issues.

fall damage should definetly not be in... if u read in the first strike i believe, a spartan could land on a planet at TERMINAL velocity and live with minor wounds, provided not everyone is so lucky but the sheer strength of a spartan would make falling damage a moot point

I was just discussing this with a friend earlier. We both agree that there should be fall damage, but you should be able to fall a good ways farther than in H1 before it shows up.

i like this guys idea.fall damage but you get to fall A LOT more

I think that fall damage was removed from Halo 2 because if you lunged at someone with the sword who happened to be below you, then it speeds you towords the ground, and death if fall damage is on. The no fall damage speeds up the gameplay and make it a little bit more intense, I like being able to jump from the top of Colossus to the bottom and fight the enemy without having to go around to avoid fall damage.

yea maybe thhats waht they had in mind when making halo 2 and didnt expect people to be falling from such heights(which you dont in halo 2 even with super jumps)

like in my previous post when i said A LOT more, i meant more as in orbital drop heights

so having no fall damage is the right way to go

def. put back some fall damage, because it would take a lot of the cheating away, no one can jump mod, super bounce or any of that lame -blam!-, its retarded if i wanna see stuff like that ill go buy some other game, i wanna shoot people, not watch them shoot me from 1,000 feet up with the only sniper rifle in the level its stupid. at least just make it to where if you fall from extreme heights you should die, but short to medium drops do not hurt at all, just my opinion.

In halo one you could fall from any hight that you could halo 2 so long as you crounched when you hit the ground it wasn't that big of a deal it just added something more for you to worry about. I miss it.

If you can figure out how to mod things, like making things fly, you could take out fall damage for yourself. So, that's just a waste of time to take it out for that reason.

Ok heres the deal, ive put much thought into this, i think that when you fall from a banshee at a high speed or just cruising, when you fall you should be given a quick buton solution to decide whether or not you land on your feet or crash into the earth. But the catch is, if you correctly hit the button combo, you land on your feet you are up and ready to fight, with your primary firearm, but if you miss the combo, you hit with a crash, and are left with your sidearm only. Just imagine falling from a speeding banshee into a hotspot with a roclet launcher and you miss the combo and all u got is your SMG. Now if you had no side arm for instance, the right trigger would become the right hook button, likewise the left trigger would be the left hook, and B would be kick or some other action. Ideas? Improvements?

  • 05.18.2006 7:27 PM PDT

Fall damage is good, especially with the additions of banshees. Why the heck should you be able to just get out and fall to the ground? The only thing that took fall damage out of Halo 2 was the fact that when you sworded someone from above, the speed from the lunge actually simulation fall damage and killed you, and time was of the essence, so they had to take it out. I forget where I read that...

EDIT - I forgot about crouch landing from Halo 1 as well... further added a skill element so you wouldn't die from dropping in to the enemy base. Just another positive to it.

Halo 1? How doesn't it fit?

  • 05.18.2006 7:31 PM PDT

I think rather than making fall damage or no fall damage permanent, I think there should be the option to turn fall dmg on/off , This way people who liked how halo 1 had fall dmg which made it harder and more strategy based action, can play that way. But people who like halo 2's more fast paced no fall dmg based action can play that way if they want. So I think it would not only be better for everyone but it will also provide multiplayer with 2 different styles of gameplay for people to choose from, depending on what you feel like playing.

Col Sanders 37- Would you like that original or extra crispy?

I hope you choke on my popcorn chicken!

Eat my crispy strips biotch!

I dunno if anyone said this but in the books the spartans headin to reach had to bail out of their pelican and free fall once they hit atmosphere, without a parachute. A number of them were injured but also a good number were alright to fight. Remember that they jumped like atleast 10 times higher than we fall during multiplayer. They just had to shift their shield around to their feet so the shield took the impact. So no I do not think there should be a fall damage.

  • 05.18.2006 9:47 PM PDT

Reach is hot garbage.

Bring it back. Fall damage worked in Halo 1, and with some adjustments, it should work for H3. Don't fix what isn't broken, Bungie, AGAIN.

  • 05.18.2006 9:51 PM PDT

There should always be fall damage. Halo2 was lame because you could just from the top of the map and not take any damage. It wasnt realistic at all

There should be no damage per se, but there should be a brief period (1.5-2.5 seconds) where the player is stunned and immobile after falling from a significant height

That would work. He would run slower and his vision would blur
