Graphics are good, gameplay sucks. Overhyped IMO.

I had to risk my life in the mountains of Montana. So must everyone else who is sent west.

I'm game.

Thanks all for your replies! Perhaps someday I will board an aircraft to this distant locale :). I hope Bungie won't mind Billy Joel references in their character dialogue. EDIT - Is all game-writing script work? I saw there wasn't a degree required for the "writer" position. Is this true? An English degree is an expensive way to break into the food-service world (as far as I know?).

Sean swore quietly. All this petty conflict over coffee, donuts, and off-brand chewing gum. He just knew he could be a movie star if he could get out of this place.

Heh.

EDIT - (figured I'd add to this post rather then make another).

Bungie is a very collaborative place. I imagine that there is something significant lost when you can't yell over to your coworker at the next desk to ask him about an idea or have a coworker walk over to you and work with you on integrating something into the latest build.

I guess ill have to be the Devils advocate and agree with this. I know from my courses that I do better with a classroom then an online class. I'd imagine there are similar mechanics in the job world. Thanks for the lengthy reply!

Ok, ok, serious answer:

With only a few exceptions, Bungie work takes place in the building. This is for a mix of reasons including studio culture, good collaboration, and security. The exceptions I know of are things like the authors who worked on the Halo novels, etc.

Bungie has a formal relationship with the Halo book authors?

Washington state had better be cheap. Starving artist here!

Along these lines, does Bungie relocate employees or are cross-country applicants seriously handicapped unless they are higher up in the food chain?

Edit: The reason I ask is because I'm pretty sure the east coast is growing it's presence in the industry and making a strong pitch for location (Boston, Philly, North Carolina).

Deej had to move his entire family over to Washington.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I'm not to keen on the idea of working for a company from a distance. Sure, for some studios and people it could work out, but if I were to be working for a place like Bungie, I would much rather actually be there anyway.

Relocation? Sure. Bring it on.

Moving is expensive, it is also a HUGE decision. Like you would leave the life you have now to start anew.

What if it doesn't work out? Can you get another job?

Also what if you live in Norway or some other far off land?

Lazy has nothing to do with it. East coast keeps lots of people within several hours of family, which is a HUGE benefit for people who grew up in a much more family-centric subculture.

Edit: To relate this to my earlier question, if you don't get them young they may simply choose to stay (or not move unless you pay lots more) when they get more popular and more experienced.

I'm not sure you're old enough to understand this, but life doesn't have to be fair. If someone doesn't have the dedication to relocate, do you really think they'll have enough dedication to make it through crunch-time?

Try and see this from the employer's perspective. No one ever got hired just because they "really liked" the company.

I'm 18, going to college and getting a job, I understand some things. ^_^

But sometimes the cost of moving outweigh the benefits. Working for Bungie would be amazing but not everyone has the resources to make such a move, atleast without considerable thought and a lot of pre-planning.

Like finding a place to live, moving all your stuff, etc.

I don't think you understand how employment works. You sacrifice for the employer so they pay you. You don't get to make demands before you've even worked for them (unless you have a helluvalot of clout).

A little vitriolic today, huh? :)

I'm not talking about demands. I'm talking about attracting qualified employees early on. There's no public mention about relocating which may turn away less-experienced and hence more timid applicants who may end up being total rock stars in 5 years.
