It isn't our shiznit anymore.

1) Stats tracking
2) Any form of a visible ranking system (no 1-50, no Arena, etc)

I want to know how important these things are to Halo fans.

Would be annoyed, but I'd still play.

I like to play Reach for fun. I hate MLG, campers, armor lock, and team killers because they ruin that fun. Deal with it.

Halo CE doesn't have any of those things and I still play it.

Country: United States.
State: Pennsylvania.
County: Warren.
I graduated from high school on June-11-2011. I'm 19 right now. I'm turning 20 in December. I like playing video games, and board games. I like reading Sci-Fi, and World War II novels, and what not.

"There is nothing better in the world than being better at a video game than someone else....oh wait"

I would still play, and enjoy the game. I play video games for fun. To me stats, and ranks are just add ons to the game.
This is how I feel about them if they stay, or got removed.

The narrator of the video brought up an interesting point:
"If the process of playing a game isn't fun for you, well maybe you're not a gamer."

I've seen posters around different game forums write that they won't buy X sequel if it does not have an adequate rewards system for playing, like 1-50 in Halo or prestiging in CoD. A large part of the Halo 4 discussion revolves around rewards systems (i.e. 1-50), and the large emphasis communities put on discussing rewards systems over gameplay changes makes me a bit nervous for the future of not just Halo, but the gaming industry as a whole.

Hi.

Stat tracking? Wouldn't care.
No skill-based ranks? Annoyed, but I'd still play, assuming I enjoy the gameplay.

For some people I think they might want 1-50 not because its a reward system, but because it matches you up with people of your skill level (Unlike Reach where a team of 4 great players can match with 4 terrible randoms). They, like he said in the video, enjoy a challenge and don't want to play a game that is so easy that it becomes boring.

Of course I assume the "Rewards" side has something to do with it as well, if not entirely for some people.

I would play regardless because I love playing Halo, but the 1-50 system was more than a reward. It was also a way of matching even teams against each other. In MLG, for example, professional groups who go into the list to scrimmage can end up against me at any given point. Moreover, they could wind up against some scrub with a .13 KD with 1,000 games played.

Even matches is the reason for 1-50. Sure, lots of people play the Hell out of lists with ranking systems and use cheats or what have you to try and get the highest rank so they can stroke their e-weens to it, but that's not the main purpose. The purpose is for matchmaking.

Stats or no stats, I will still enjoy a game. What's the point of playing if the only thing you care about is your K/D and W/L ratios? I know far too many people (including friends) who care more about their stats than enjoying the game. I know it's fun to have stats and look at them which is why I would prefer to have some form of stats, but it isn't essential for me to purchase a game and enjoy a game.

As far as a trueskill system, that could sway me further away from a game more than the stats. Some games have steep learning curves (much like Halo) and can really detract from an experience if you are being unevenly matched.

I should have clarified on that more. By "visible ranking system" I mean being able to see the ranking system. 1-50 could exist in this game devoid of rewards, you just wouldn't be able to see it or your rank.

I'm trying to think of an online matchmaking game that doesn't show visible rank. I don't even know if there are any out there? I doubt a major game would ever make the decision not to show visible rank but again, it's not essential to my enjoyment but it sure would be weird. I feel like a visible rank at best helps you evaluate someones skill/experience in a game. A higher rank generally means you're up for a tougher match. When I'd see a 50 in Halo 3, I'd buckle down in my seat and get ready for a tough match.

This. I'd rather have fun playing the game, then later when I'm bored just check on my stats to see if I'm improving, but fussing over k/d and w/l is worthless and doesn't apply anywhere else.

Stat Tracking isn't a big deal for me.

My (2) must haves

1. Visible Ranking System, is a MUST HAVE! These COD ranking systems are plan and boring. Also, the ranking system in Halo 2 was hands down the best of the best. It did what it was suppose to do before modders.

same level players, played against one another. This has NOT happened since. Rank is for show yes, but it helps generate GOOD games, not these lopsided crappy games found in Reach.

If I had to pick a second REQUIREMENT since stats aren't that big of a deal, I would say...

2. Bloom and hightech motion tracker need to get out of Halo. Rate of Fire is how the game should be developed, not bloom. I would have no problem if the motion tracked sensed a person next to you 2 levels down, but it should show you he/she is above or below. Think of Alien's motion tracker, they just knew it was from ONE direction.

If they keep the motion tracker as is, they need to have a pickup for AA that can be activated to DISAPPEAR from radar. I'm not talking about inviz, just undetectable via motion tracker for X amount of time. I would hope it's not an AA because those should be gone as well.

I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

Neither of those are necessary for me to enjoy the game, although I admit I do use stat tracking a lot.
