Subject: Will you not play Halo again if it lacked these things?

Your presence here is quite unneeded. Begone you!!!

I don't need a cookie for playing a video game. Achievements fill that lust for award

If it had a campaign that follows the story or universe in some way, then yes, I'd still play Halo.

I should have clarified on that more. By "visible ranking system" I mean being able to see the ranking system. 1-50 could exist in this game devoid of rewards, you just wouldn't be able to see it or your rank.
Then I'd still play. Seems like the next Halo needs to be able to match people based on skill. I wouldn't care if the skill level was visible to me or not. More competitive players probably would hate it if skill level wasn't visible to them because then they'd have nothing to compete over.

Halo: Reach is the beginning of a new age for gaming.
It proves that developers can get away with punishing their players instead of fixing their game....and yet the fanboys will still sing praises to them.

-blam!- all of you fanboys!

This thread gives me hope.

Maybe you guys are not all a bunch of lost causes.

Visible ranking system is not needed.
Proper math to determine a person rank is.

I.E. K/D should have no bearing on rank in an obj playlist. etc.

Lets use CTF as an example.
Here's the numbers behind the scenes that matter

Flags per Minute
Assists per Minute

Because Assists actually mean more than a persons K/D

You can have a K/D of 5.0. But if you don't help teammates or even make an attempt at the flags at any point in your "career", you're bad.

Now the real problem is in determining how to reward someone with an assist, for getting in a warthog and picking up the flag carrier.

But...NONE OF IT should be visible.
Because when it is visibile. It has a bad influence on the entire community.

W/L seems to be the fairest system for us taxi drivers. :)

Here's the numbers behind the scenes that matter

Flags per Minute
Assists per Minute

Flags per minute is a useless stat. CTF is all about knowing when to run the flag. If you pull it when all four of your opponents are alive and your team is lacking map control, you're not going to cap that flag.

If flags per minute was used to determine matches in CTF you'd get matches of 8 kids all spawning and immediately rushing to the opponent's base and then fighting over who gets to pull the flag. That's no good.

"You're like a car crash in slow motion. It's like I'm watchin' ya fly through a windshield" -Scout

I would like Halo even more w/o stat tracking and a ranking system.

Would be annoyed, but I'd still play.

Completely irrelevant. There will be some form of stat tracking, although it might not be that great.

CTF is not about knowing when to run the flag. It's simply, running the flag.

Most of you wait till you have the enemy cornered in their spawn before you even make an attempt at it.

In which case, You're not that good of a CTF player if the only way you can score is when the enemy team is basically getting -blam!- over.

Try scoring a flag without spawn trapping and see what I mean.
It's actually quite satisfying. Compared to the former.

That's like having a push up-contest with someone who has a sumo-wrestler sitting on top of them.

Herp.. I beat you. ME = 10 push-ups.. You = 0

Since I know I need to clarify this a bit for the retards...here it is:

CTF is about knowing WHEN TO KILL.

I have a teammate sneaking to the enemy base..he's undetected as of yet. I have an enemy half way to my base. If I kill that enemy now. He's going to spawn back up at his base and give my sneaky teammate a bit of trouble getting out of the base with their flag.

If I however. Allow the enemy to continue to move towards me....allow him to kill me a few times even... waiting for the proper moment to send him back to his base. Which is hopefully after my teammate has grabbed the flag and warped out.

So long as that enemy is pre-occupied with me in the middle of the map....then. Well you figure it out.

Wrong.

I cared enough to tell you the truth.

Also, it's funny how much you care about Halo when you haven't played in a year.

I'm in love with Jesus and proud of it!

I could care less about 1. I wan to have FUN when I play and not fret over stupid meaningless numbers.

As for 2, there should be rank, but not like Reach's. Maybe somehow combine the 1-50 system WITH Reach's time-based one.
