Yes, I can consider myself a fan because I live in this wonderful country and am therefore entitled to do so if I please. Secondly, I can call myself a fan because I have kept up with everything involving the Halo universe (including books, forums, and obviously games) quite extensively. My third thing is, any entertainment value I was supposed to absorb was overwhelmed by my frustration and disappointment in the all around shoddy gameplay. And about the cheating, I didn't hurt anyone with the glitch I was doing. I got reset, re-achieved my rank and said f@@@ it. Thats when I quit.
Oh, don't give me your pseudo-patriotic narcissism. The Terms of Sevice and Use are pretty specific about cheating and that it's strictly prohibited, don't try to justify it to yourself (or, worse, others) with such a stupid response.
How can you "not hurt anyone" by cheating? You know what the point of cheating is? Giving yourself an unfair advantage by means that you weren't supposed to use, ergo you are hurting the experience of other players by not playing fairly. If it was so "shoddy" and "disappointing" then just play something else, don't waste the time of other people and yourself by doing stupid things.
Straight from the ToS:
"[Do not]damage, disable, overburden, or impair the Service (or the networks connected to the Service) or interfere with anyone else's ability to access or use the Service;"
Damaged? Unlikely.
Disabled? The service still worked. My network still worked. Nobody else had impaired access. Huh.
Overburdened? Also unlikely.
Impaired? See disabled.
Interference? Unlikely as well.
I Ctrl-F'd the page, and I found out that word "Manipulate" or any subsets such as "manipulating" or "manipulated" never appeared. Once.
Let's look at glitching.
"[Do not] exploit a bug, or make an unauthorized modification, to any software or data to gain unfair advantage in a game , contest, or promotion."
Did I exploit a bug? Yes. Was it unfair? While everybody is more than capable of doing it, I'm not going to try and argue that.
But most importantly, did it give me an advantage of any kind?
HELL NO!
I have followed the Xbox Live Terms of Service, and by Microsoft's Standards, have made no ban-able offense.
Don't forget the weekly update that said;
"Nope. You won't be banned for legitimately playing Reach. If you find some particularly fast way of earning Credits because you want to be the first person on the planet with thunder and lightning swirling your visage, we won't ban you for that, either. Assuming you're actually playing, your efficient means of farming Credits will only expedite your trip to the Daily Cap it won't send you to Banadu."
While it is obviously a method of boosting, we were still playing the game; that's better than can be said about some methods, such as using the Marine turret gunner to kill troops on Long Night of Solace. We were still killing covies to complete those challenges, even if we did so slowly and with massive reward. This is actually the reason I tried out the glitch.
And finally, it simply is not cheating, which is defined in this context as giving yourself an unfair advantage. In what way has our impatience given us an advantage? Is my Scout Helmet going to strike fear into the heart of my opponents, giving me an immense psychological advantage?
This is complete bull ****. At the very least, they could have given us the option to reset our commendations and start again clean, or give us something to compensate for our hard-earned legitimate accomplishments.
