I am an alt, or am i.

“Oh, it’s a little bit of everything, it’s the mountains, it’s the fog, it’s the news at six o’clock, it’s the death of my first dog, it’s the angels up above me, it’s the song that they don’t sing, It’s a little bit of everything.”
- Dawes, A little bit of everything

As a Penn State Student, the PSU trolls really annoy me, but whatever. I don't like ALTs and wish people would simply stick to a single account, but alas the world does not revolve around my every want or need, so that won't happen.

Actually, I would like to elaborate. What Destiny7 has said is much my own philosophy. I don't care if they're following the rules, it's when Alternate Accounts are created for the purpose of causing havoc or trolling that irritates me.

If they are using them to evade bans it is against the rules, although I see people in The Flood admit to just that all the time, yet they never get banned.

If they aren't breaking rules I see no issue with them.

I have gotten an alt banned for simply existing as "a way to bypass bans"

That permaban got this main auto banned a few times when I accidently logged in and forgot to [Censored] to avoid the autoban.

Hi I'm RT and I like to argue!

Alts are perfectly acceptable, and from what I've heard even some ninjas have them.

  • 02.10.2012 11:31 AM PDT

I don't particularly have much of a problem with them.

Alt accounts in and of themselves are not bad.
BUT the manner in which they may be used or the reason they may have been created can easily be 'bad'.

Hey, how's it going?

Xbox Ambassador

Ambassador Support Chat

I have an alt only because that account is linked to old gamertag that has played Halo 2.

Resist

If you look at the linked gamertag it says jarred11, just saying that I'm 16 now. Not 11.

OT though I think alts are bad only if they're obviously used for mischievous things.

Heavy weighs the crown, low hangs the head who wears it.

Alt accounts are bad because they allow the user to escape the feeling of responsibility for their posts. As mentioned countless times, "you should have to live with your decisions, and the consequences of them".

Mythical Group

There is no greater catharsis than arguing on the Flood.

They're not a big deal, and there's no way to really get rid of them anyhow.

Alternate accounts aren't bad. Naughty users are bad but the only way to keep out the bad users is to keep out all the users.

I'm on my third b.net account due to security concerns relating to my past two WLID email addresses used here and since bungie.net latches onto those suckers permanently if I feel my current email is at even the slightest risk I'll create and move onto a fourth account.

Who the hell do you think I am?

As long as people aren't using them to avoid bans, I don't see the problem.

As long as people aren't using them to avoid bans, I don't see the problem.
And what percentage is that?
I'd say about 99.9%.

I do not think that alt accounts are bad.

As long as they're not being used to break any rules or do harm then I see nothing wrong with them.

I agree with This Guy

We should know better, because we are better.

I am alright with alts so long as they don't avoid bans. The ones that do are the problem.

  • 02.10.2012 12:55 PM PDT

Relax. I'd rather not piss this thing off.

-Master Chief

Alts should be made, unless there being made for trolling, or flamming.

  • 02.10.2012 12:59 PM PDT

Alt Accounts are a disease that is unwarranted but undeniable exists and has no forseeable solution.

But what is the point in creating one?
Varies reasons. One of which could be a change or the email associated with your XBL account.
