I didn't like my old username, I created an alt some time ago.

In this case, I don' think it is bad, neither account has ever been banned and all I wanted was a username change.

Please stop complaining about the 'death of a loved one' it's my job. They probably deserved it anyways. Here's a warning, if you keep making pentagrams out of the neighbors livestock I will personally come to your house and kill everyone you love. Now leave me alone, I got to get back to work.

Me thinks it's bad. serious sin. One account per person

“Oh, it’s a little bit of everything, it’s the mountains, it’s the fog, it’s the news at six o’clock, it’s the death of my first dog, it’s the angels up above me, it’s the song that they don’t sing, It’s a little bit of everything.”
- Dawes, A little bit of everything

I almost swish i had a n alt account for posting when drunk as this is les sthan preferable.

I made a thread a while ago about this. I do not think that alternative accounts are a bad thing, and they are a good solution when you feel bored with your account. Just because there are members out there which use them to do nasty stuff it does not mean that everyone abuses that possibility.

For my case, I wanted a new start. I also made a new Windows Live account, gamertag and so on.

Describe for me, aside from reincarnating yourself after a forum ban, what sort of purpose an alternate account would serve?

Hello, I'm Mr AwesomePizza. I like pizza and I'm a man. Reasoning for the name. I like to listen to the classics of music, write poetry, play video games, and much much more. I'm always down for a nice chat, so please hit me up for some conversation.

Not all alts are bad. Ninjas have alts, are they bad? No, they're aren't.

Do you know what kind of hat I'm wearing?

A party hat; you don't get one. An honor will this party be, a party in your honor, for your honor. Some of Tfear's personal guards are going to be there. You'll be introduced shortly.

Prepare to die.

How else could I have a PM conversation with myself. Or have a group of entirely me?

There is another way.

Rock bottom is no place to set up camp. Especially in the dark.

I think they're very unneeded... You would only want an alt if you got perma'd. I can't think of any other reason. If you weren't perma'd, there's no need for an alternate account when you already have one that works without any problems.

The distance between insanity and genius is measured only by success.

The problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubts, while the stupid ones are full of confidence.

As you waste your breath complaining about life, Someone out there is breathing their last. Appreciate what you have.

If you stand for nothing, you will fall for anything.

Basically, if the profile settings were more versatile none of us would need alts.

Well maybe he is afraid of annoying people which would stalk or even annoy him for the opinions he has on a wide range of subjects. I guess it is always a risk to state your opinion, because you have always that 0.1% that some shut-in has nothing better to do than spamming your PM inbox.

Perhaps he is afraid that his opinion may warrant a ban. Not all opinions are nice and dandy, some may even have a deeper offence towards a group.

I needed to change the WLID that my Gamertag was associated with. As you are currently unable to change the WLID a Bungie.net account is associated with, and I wanted to keep both WLIDs, I had to create a new Bungie.net account to link my Gamertag to.

However, I use my other account purely for stats. I prefer to stick to one account, but I feel that, as long as an alt account is used for a legitimate purpose (i.e. not to avoid bans, break rules etc.), there is no problem in having one.

Key

But what reason do you have to "start new"?

The reality of the matter is that alt accounts are only feasible when you've been perma'd on another account (and then DON'T go around telling people your main was perma'd).

This whole idea of getting a new Internet identity is ludicrous considering you can be whoever you want to be on the Internet. Considering it's much easier to change who you are in text rather than in person, you should have no reason to want to "start new".

I just want to start new, it is a feeling I have and something I want to do myself. I have said that I have never been banned permanently or any other way. I do not think that I should login in to an old account just to prove that.

I feel kinda annoyed that I fall into such a generalization.

I have an alt only because that account is linked to old gamertag that has played Halo 2.
I also have one account that I've NEVER used on the forums only because that's linked to my gamertag.

Never ever had an alt. One account is better.

Not really. As long as you're not evading bans with them.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Alts are for idiots.

I'm sorry but it's true.

First in social ranked firefight campaign competitive and ODST goose splatters.
My other account is UrbanTwisticle
20,000+ total matchmade goose splatters

Check out my YouTube Channel

This was originally my alt and it became my main account. I have never been banned on any account so I guess it all boils down to who is behind the keyboard.

That said I don't really see a need for alts.

It is possible to commit no errors and still lose. That is not a weakness. That is life.

Cheeto is the only one among you that doesn't suck.

Well, considering this account is technically an alt of mine, I'd have to be in favor of them...

But, if I had to do it all over again, I would never have made an alt, and just stuck with my original account.

  • 02.11.2012 2:03 PM PDT

Alt accounts are cool. I honestly don't see a problem with them. It's just another identity on the internet. If they do something against the rules, just report it and move on.

  • 02.11.2012 2:43 PM PDT

Jack of all trades, master of none.

Alts are for trolling.

There, I said it.

As long as they're not being used to break any rules or do harm then I see nothing wrong with them.
