Me? I think it is some type of shield or beacon type thing. But it sounds like the main gun on the Scarab charging up.

It's a place where you go to activate the Halo's so im guessing it delivers some sort of super sonic waves to go communicate with the other halo's...

Ummm....we already know what the Ark does. It controls the remaining Halos' firing mechanisms. We were told that at the end of Halo 2...Did you even PLAY the game???

Apparently he skips the cutscenes.
It remotely activates the remaining Halo rings.

Yeah. and the Forerunner were humans...[/sarcasm]

But if you can turn them on, can't you turn them off? Activating the Halos can't be the only thing it does..I mean just look at Halo, it was a weapon and it contained the Flood.

Another question I have, is if the Forerunner activated the rings, what did the Flood feed on?

If i had a quarter for everytime I've played through Halo 1 and 2, I could go buy an Xbox 360, and yes I DO watch the cutscenes. What I meant was the Flood are still alive, what were they feeding on while there was nothing on the Halos? And with no way to get off, they couldn't find what the Forerunner left behind ( Humans, I guess ).

The Flood were dormant until they found something large, sentient, and organic to feed on.

wow, you dont even know the MAIN storyline of the game? i mean some people dont know the whole backstory, but you dont even know the main story...

Dont be angry, I'm obligated to whip your ass; if I didn't you wouldn't be getting your moneys worth.

Has not anyone read the Biblical parable of Noah's Ark. The Earth and all living things living in sin were consumed by a great "flood". God instructed Noah to build an "ARK" to save everyone from destruction. Doing this constituted a "covenant" with God. The flood consumed everything in a zombie type of way. They only way to escape the great "flood" is to seek refuge in the ARK. Which in this case activates the rings to destroy the flood. IF the flood are on Earth however, the ARK will in effect be destroying itself in the process. This would tie into the plight of the heretics who claim the prophecy of the great journey to be false. False since if the covenant seek refuge in the Ark to destroy and escape the flood they are also ultimately destroying themselves in the process. This could potentially explain away Cortana's statements in the trailer, she has learned this and sees the Master Chief now involved in a forsaken battle that appearently can't be won due to the aforementioned statements describing the current state of affairs. While I do believe there is a symbollic relationship between elements of Halo and the Biblical story of Noah, I doubt what I have described is accurate to the direction Bungie decided to take the story. Im probably only half right.

The Ark blows up the universe! No, actually it protects live from the Halos.

Love you Bungie!
Still playing Halo1 Custom Edition!

it's very odd as it sounds like the ark is some protection.. but the trailer clearly shows it's killing everything... maybe it's action range is limited?

I remember reading a theory: all rings, well placed could not hit earth... earth and the solar system was in some safe zone.. what if the only way to purge what's around Earth is to fire the ark? considering it's got a smaller range... anyone firing it would have enought time to hide in it So anyone firing the halo would be no treat to earth but anyone in control of the ark controls the faith of the universe

How does it look like it's killing everything? All you see is an exteremely bright light that blinds the camera.

Ok. The Ark is the center activation point for all 7 halos, so needless to say it blows -blam!- up lots of it, and it will either blow earth up and the Cheif will go down in a blaze of glory, or it will save earth and destroy the covenent and the Cheif will walk away at the end all busted up in all the glory of his asskickery.
