Subject: Why should I work for Bungie?

Rock bottom is no place to set up camp. Especially in the dark.

Please, do not take the title as a challenge, but as more of a question. I honestly would like to know the perks of working for Bungie Studios. You see, I'm still in High School, and am taking all of the computer classes I can. But on the other had, I'm also interested in Psychology. I like the idea of being a video game developer. In three years I'll be off to college to major in anything of my choice. So if I do decide to develop video games, I would really like to get a job at Bungie.

I mean, is the salary good, do you have a lot of fun with your job..? I guess I just want to know what it's like.

(If this is breaking any rules, I apologize. I read the rules and didn't see anything going against this thread. But please lock if it's really needed. Thanks.)

Bagel Fridays. Oh am I so jealous.

In all seriousness, if you want to have the chance to work with Bungie, you will most likely have to be dedicated and pursue a college course/major that matches something you are interested in and something that Bungie is looking for. Computer Science would be a great choice for if you would like to learn to program, while art courses are a good choice if you are good at drawing, etc.

There are plenty of other things you can do too, just look at the requirements for the job you are interested in and pursue your dream.

While you are at it, try making your own little games and build up a portfolio. Nothing can hurt. :)

You shouldn't.

Assuming you can even get anywhere in such a saturated market, you'll likely be overworked and underpaid, and your entire career will hinge on how well your game sells, as is life as a developer.

If you like computers, there are a lot of opportunities for a computer science major.

When you realize how unrealistic it is to get a job making video games, there will be 500 new high school kids, with the same aspirations, ready to take your place.

Why work for Bungie when you can start up your own company? Start off small, like a a mobile app or game. That's what I'm doing right now. Eventually when I become a billionaire I'll buy out Bungie and make them my monkeys.

"The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit,
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it."
-Omar Khayyám-

why my friend? Because if you don't then the gurgling, sloppy, tasty, crunchy primordial ooze that is living on the couch will take the job and release a pungent flatus which would decimate the very fabric of reality.

Situation demands that you take the job good sir, hope this has been of help.

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

Competitive 401K's and dental/eye insurance.

What Mouse said. To get anywhere in the video game job market you need to bring something exceptional to the table, something that sets you above all the aspiring grads out there who wish to work for their favorite developer. You really should be asking yourself the question you pose, OP. If you don't have an answer or if it's anything other than for the love of [insert aspect of development] with an over all sense of love for just producing video games, then I suggest you may want to look somewhere else other than Bungie/Game Development.

If you can roll with it though, 401k, insurance benefits, and competitive salaries and profit sharing are definitely the things that catches my eyes for long term investiment.

Why should I work for Bungie?

One of the designers stopped by my desk yesterday and asked me two questions about game design. I not only didn't know the answers, they were questions that had never even occurred to me before.

There aren't many jobs where that happens.

There comes a time in every mans life... and that time is not now.

The only reasons i would consider working for bungie are the facilities, how well the employees are looked after, and if i actually wanted to work in the gaming industry.

If you are passionate about creating games, you won't get your heart set on working with one company. Sure, Bungie make great games and they are involved with their community, but there are plenty of other companies out there as well.

Plus the employees that i've had the chance to deal with seem pretty cool. It sounds like a fun place to work, but i don't know anything about any other game developers, so i'm not sure if that's exclusive to Bungie.

Dianna Agron is the epitome of perfection.

Quinntology.

Honestly, the perks seem pretty good. If the wages were fair and I was good at any form of game design, I would consider working there.

Please stop complaining about the 'death of a loved one' it's my job. They probably deserved it anyways. Here's a warning, if you keep making pentagrams out of the neighbors livestock I will personally come to your house and kill everyone you love. Now leave me alone, I got to get back to work.

Bungie.Match.com: Our Johnson knows what the ladies like.

Taken from the "about us" page:

Medical, dental and vision benefits. It will be hard to find better coverage.

401K with a generous match. Your future self will thank you.

Highly-competitive compensation. This includes salary, performance bonus and profit sharing on titles.

One of the best time-off/holiday plans east AND west of the Mississippi.

Paid health club/gym membership to counteract the continuous supply of delicious snacks and treats.

Creative, comfy and collaborative working environment. See the pictures.

Continuous flow of Bungie 'love.' Think pentathlons, Bungie Day, food trucks and foosball. Little things to show we care.

One thing to note is that working as developer for a gaming company isn't all fun, pants and constant parties. It's really hard work and you put in a lot of hours. There are awesome perks, though. Chinese food. Cake. And millions of people playing your game.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten
