I seriously don't get it! I mean the SPARTAN program probably costed like billions of dollars in research and developement on armor and weapons. The Master Chief can fight in space with stored oxygen, but if he ever fell in the water he would drown. According to the books, the armor weight about half a tons, so they are toast if they ever tried to go for a swim. It is proven in Halo 2 because he fell in the water in the cutscene after he killed the Regret. Chief was rescued by Gravemind or else he would of ran out of stored oxygen and drowned. Maybe Dr.Halsely got too carried away with the shields and shiny armor that she forgot to install a floatation device for the spartans' armor.

For example,

Chief was riding a pelican to battle on Earth. There was turbulance and he got shaken out of the pelican and fell into the ocean. He died and the humans lost their hero, other spartans lost their leader and everything blew up by covenant !!!
How stupid does that sound!!

Edit,

I think the explosion did know MC out, but Cortanna could've awaken him because remember in the first few city levels of Halo 2. Pelican crash, chief knocked confused, Cortanna says "Chief!! Chief !! Wake Up!!" How the heck do you swim with that much armor on. Ever hear that fat people float well in the water because fat is less dense than water. People like Chief and arnold swarzzenneger can't swim well because there is no body fat. And plus Chief is in the armor which is made out of metal that i'm sure is denser than water!!

Bungie has never metioned anything that made spartans mjornir armor float before!!!EVER!!!

Well you have a really good point even if he could breath for awhile walking on the ocean floor would take a long time.

i'd like to see you when you have a 5 ton suit on trying to swim

He was also not in consiousness when he was knocked out. MC can lift a friggin tank with one hand; he most def. can swim.

I agree that spartans can't swin but MC doesn't need to dude, i mean, he'd sink to the bottom and walk out and if he ran into a wall he'd climb it, he's indestructable like that

Why care about swimming? Honestly, it doesn't do anything to Halo 2 at all. It just helps make level boundaries, how about not complaining. Its a video game, not real life.

I'm in the US Air Force stationed in Alaska. I've been chillin on bnet for nearly 5 years now.

Sure he can swim

It's the explosion that knocked the MC out. The guy was completly limp.

Keep in mind, it is also a conained atmospher in the suit...so I'm sure if it is sealed for the vacuum of space it is protected gainst water seeping in. He would be able to breathe underwater.

The armor weighs half a ton, not 5. And by the books spartans can jump 3 meters high easily so why not be able to swim? Plus we have no idea what the chiefs armor is made of. It could be less dense than water. And you forget the gel layer inbetween the chief and the armor plate so it's possible he can float.

I'm sure there are settings on the suit that allow you to fill it with air, which would allow you to float.

Also...Chief has been augmented to be able to wear ths suit and resume day-to-day activities. If the suit were too heavy. he wouldn't be able to run, jump, or walk, according to your logic. That's the reason he was augmented, to be able to do those things.

Simple spartans can do everything we can plus more, like flip a tank. So of course they can swim.

Total weight is 0.5 ton.
He can survive in space for 90 minutes with oxygen stored in his suit

Now the explosion knocked him out after he killed regret. Cortana didn't wake MC up in the second level in Halo 2, he woke up by himself. She was just concerned and wanted him to wake up. As for MC being in the water after killing regret, he was uncncious but could have survived for 90 minutes, which would have een enough to wake up, walk to the shore and get air. He can swim without the armor but not with it.
