Subject: Should outstanding members have the Spam Filter disabled?

With the coming "new hawtness" update, I thought I'd throw in a bone for the web team. For the most part, the spam filter isn't a problem. But if your typing speed is high enough, you may end up running into the spam filter every once in a great while. And when you do, it's annoying.

With that being said, I'd like to raise a motion to disable the spam filter for high ranking accounts. Usually, people with Heroic on up generally care about their reputation here. Because of that, it's highly unlikely that they will spam the forums with utter nonsense. I'm not going to get too picky with the details (what constitutes as an "outstanding" member, exceptions to this rule, etc), but I thought I'd throw this idea out to the community to see what you all think.

Wake me, when you need me.

I dont think waiting a few seconds is honestly that bad...

Again with the inequalities. No standard title should have any real benefits.

I'm outstandingly awesome. Does this qualify as outstanding?

It's a 30 second filter. Even I rarely hit it. I think I last hit it... last week?

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

I don't really see much use in that. Generally, in my opinion, those that would earn such a privilege would put more time into their posts as to make the whole issue moot.

We apologize, but bungie.net's anti-spam filter prevents you from posting to our forums so quickly. Please wait a short time, then try the submit button again.

I don't see a point in this, why should it only be for people with titles like (Heroic, Legendary, etc.)?

I never even post fast enough, to where the spam filter even gets in my way.

This has been brought up many times, and the verdict is always... It won't kill you to wait 30 seconds and it wouldn't be fair to others if you did not have to wait.

It's not necessarily aimed at titles. The general idea is that there has to be some type of distinction between accounts that would likely spam the forums, and accounts that would not.

Usually, the age of an account helps distinguish the two. However, if an alternate way to distinguish the "would" and "would-not" can be established, I'm all ears.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I don't see the big deal in waiting a few seconds. You don't want people spamming the forums ALL DAY.

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

It's true.

I admit, I seldom do - unless I'm active in all my groups. It's only a few seconds so I don't really see the harm in it waiting. What about a spam filter by forum/group instead of one general spam filter? One for the public forums as a whole, then one for each individual group; at least then we could just - go somewhere else (hah!).

Because players of a high rank hints of consistent activity, proper management of posts so little to no foul play, and has been around here for more than a few days to cause trouble. Many forums do this to prevent spamming, or image posting when available until a certain level, or post count.

I disagree with any member getting an extra feature based solely on their automated and "just for fun" title. I disagree with what it takes to achieve the title being enough to be considered more trustable. I generally just disagree with turning the spam filter off for anyone.

So, more to the point, no.

  • 02.11.2012 5:36 PM PDT

I do not support this. As a person who has a relatively high title, I would not say that I deserve such benefits nor would I trust myself nor anyone of equivalent or higher title with them.

  • 02.11.2012 5:40 PM PDT

No, OP. I absolutely despise the "hurr durr we don't need it" argument, but we really, really don't need this. It's just unnecessary. We're all susceptible to the spam filter; even Achronos.

Deal with it.
