Subject: Bnet Community, can we just grow the hell up?

Best post i have seen since this new slate, i am so tired of people acting like dumass on the forum's its to much like Call of Duty

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I think this is a good idea, however, it isn't fair to make people be mature. In this forum I will understand, if you went to The Flood...being immature can be funny sometimes and it's how I personally relax.

This forum is far from mature, look at all the employees that post cats. This place would be boring if it was serious business.

Hmm, I also agree with that. I R CONFUZLLED. I think some degree of maturity is needed though. Some.

One thing that stands out here is that many seem to have not implemented a tool at their disposal.

Ignore the immature posters.

I know, you can't unread things you see and took the time to read through, but if you notice a certain name or avatar that keeps popping up posting drivel, spam, unintelligible comments (not to be mistaken for drunk posts), whining, non comments, off topic,... you name it - either ignore them and move on OR report the post if it so warrants it and let the powers that be take care of it. If enough people would do this regularly less of this kind of thing would be around here to an irritant.

This is one reason I still favor a 'hide user' feature. I know it's not a perfect answer, but it would greatly reduce the amount of complaining done about 'other users'.

Relax, I've found this community a lot more mature then others.

This is the internet and it is a game developers website, there will be kids, and immaturity.

In almost any forum community there will be, aswell.

IDK, I am 18 and I am kind of immature, LOL. :p

Who the hell do you think I am?

I can't stand young children on the internet, but it's not like there's anything we can do about it.

If someone is being immature on the forums just give them a ban and move on.

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

Let's not confuse age with maturity. There's many young people that are amazingly mature for their age; unfortunately though, there's many more immature adult peeps.

Look at this thread for an example:

http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=70069243

No one even mentioned that the thread was in the wrong forum. People just abused the idea that the OP was wrong. Was he a new comer? Sure. Obviously since he didn't he was in the incorrect forum. What are the responses though?

Just look at them all:

"fail troll is fail"
"Really?"
"Yeah, I'm playing it right now"
"Get out of the halo reach forum"
"lol@thisthread"

And a few more. That's only 1 example on the front page. How can we expect members to stick around for a while if they pose a question and gets loads of answers like this? I know I wouldn't stay around too long.

The OP even expects some people to respond with "lolclans" so he uses the "inb4" meme.

Other responses:

"lolclans"
"ArSsuck"
"mine"
"you seem mad"
"umad Op"
"dickbutt"

Then back to lolclans. :/

The Reach forum is probably the worst forum I've seen in my entire life. I stopped going there almost a year ago when I realized it was infested with imbeciles.

My point is that people post these short one liners that add nothing to the discussion shouldn't even be posted. They're just breaking rules.

How do we get users to value their accounts more and post these sort of things. For the overall picture, it just degrading from the "bungie.net" that we all know.

1) That is the Reach forum. It's going to be filled with >M age players asking irrelevant questions.

2) It looks as though many are just having fun making stuff up to mess with him, which honestly is cool. We've all been there in the Halo 3 forum as well. Nothing new about this. You need fun threads every now and then. Is it off topic? Sure, but I'll bet you no one is reporting it as such either for no one is offended by it.

That is all part of learning to BECOME a good B.net forum member. Learn from your mistakes and grow.
If you fail to do that either because of want or inability, you may as well move on.

There is a difference in the types of immaturity.
-Being young and unlearned in certain things is one thing.
-Being old enough to know better, but acting like a child anyhow because you want to is another.
I'd rather put up with the former rather than the latter.

Well this is kind of a stupid idea but, i will through it out there.
Lets make a forum for old users, any new users can not submit topic into it. Although it is for public viewing.
then another forum can be made where the new users can make their threads.
Problem would be to get mature new users into the forum for more mature users.

The Mythic group is like that, except for the everything public part. But age =/= maturity as we have seen in that group.

Key

I would love this. I really would. But the fact of the matter is that something like this is not going to happen or, even if it does change in the manner you and the vast majority of us would like it to, it will end up being worse than before.

Allow me to explain:

Along with making a game for a new console comes a new community. With a new community comes a new personality. We already know that there will be an extreme amount of tension between the Original Community and the Newbies coming in just for Destiny (of which, for Bungie's sake, I hope there are a lot).

Now add to that a group of newly reformed via some sort of Maturity Renaissance posters who are now going to be introduced to a flock of people that, while possibly including some people who are highly capable of making intelligent thoughts in an intelligent manner, will most likely on the whole be comprised of people who will come in and not be able to identify the way in which people are expected to post on here (in proper English using paragraphs, punctuation, and capitalization when necessary).

The schism already created between the two groups will be even greater.

If you wanted to attempt to do something like this a few months into the release/announcement of Destiny, have at it. All I'm saying is that for something like this to work out now (which, I'm sorry to say, I don't think it will), it should be done at a later date.

You know our motto, We deliver!

This would be great. When I first transfered over to 343's website on Bungie day, I was really suprised by the fact that threads were full of meaningful and interesting posts.

I'm used to the Bungie forums were it seems that there is a minimal amount of actually conversation.
