Do you feel b.net needs a viewer counter added to it, such as on other forums such as 343i or FAF. This essentially shows how many signed in people are in a forum.
I think it would be a great addition to the site as it would allow people to know how active the place is and whether its worth starting a thread in some of the less active forums.

New Flood

Maybe in the flood or in groups or something... But for the most part this is a discussion based forum, if the only reason you post a thread is to get lots of people to notice it then yous shallow, baby.

Wheres Meh Sniper?

Youtube page

Sounds good, but I am not sure I would not start a thread necessarily because of low signed in count.

I find the idea of a view counter to be pointless. I would not want one.

I do not see a problem with it.

Who the hell do you think I am?

I don't think it's necessary.

You can already tell if a thread is worth much by post count.

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

All the sites I've seen it on it's just been a magnet for bumping. It's an interesting statistic on large threads, but otherwise kind of pointless for the common thread.

So that's a no from me; it would just bring more negatives than positives.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.

I don't think it'll tell you what members exactly are online at any given moment...

I guess it would be nice little feature to have.

This thread would have appealed to me more if it was written with crayons.

I broke one of the cords for my X11s because I couldn't get past the final American course in Doritos Crash Course.

yeah i like seeing how many people are online, seeing the most people online ever is pretty cool too. It would have to be quite subtle though.

Key

If you could tell me a legitimate point for having it, I might be okay with it. But as of right now it seems utterly pointless, in my opinion.

I know exactly what he was talking about. I was simply expounding.

I wouldn't mind having it, but I don't think that it's needed.

Yes, there're too many numbers in my name.

I thought that existed before the last two updates. Although if it hadn't, I'd still support it now and think it's a great idea.

  • 02.12.2012 8:50 AM PDT

I acknowledge my user name is stupid. However, I promise I'm not.

Disclaimer: The latter is a lie.

Yeah, why not? I'd like an option to hide it, though.

The funny thing about saying something is "pointless" or "unnecessary" is that they can equally be applied to functionality that already exists. For example, on the forum page:

- Seeing who created a topic
- Seeing the date they created the topic
- Seeing who posted last in the topic
- Seeing the date someone last posted
- Seeing the reply count of a thread
- Seeing the "status" of a thread (the little icon to the left)

All completely unnecessary and pointless, and interestingly enough, nobody (for the most part) seems to complain about them being unnecessary or pointless.

You're listing features that are already implemented though. It's a matter of time being far better spent on other things rather than being vehemently opposed to things like a view counter. At least in my eyes anyways.
