Below this quote is the original OP. Because I probably didn't put enough consideration into how this would effect their really old users, I'm simply wondering what the community thinks of the option to hide your join-date, just as you can your gamertag.

I know a lot of you want Bungie to keep it around (to show how long you've been here), but I feel like it only adds to controversy and elitism.

Take for example this account. It's a second account I've made after forgetting my old password to my old account. Since I haven't used my old account in about two years, it has probably been deleted. Nonetheless, it ruins my image -- and credibility -- when I come on here with an account that isn't even a week old.

That idea also plays into a lot of the elitism on the forums, and especially The Flood. Instead of people respecting each individual poster and post, many just reply -- quoting the join date of the user -- and degrade them based upon account age.

Join date is nice for users who genuinely want to show how long they've been on for, but it also causes a lot of unneeded issues.

Perhaps an alternative to entirely removing it is making it optionally visible.

Opinions?

I see no controversy, and I'm surprised you think the second point is adequate at all for this.

It is nice to see how long people have been around. I never see any elitism involved with it, unless people are joking.

I've seen so many posts where people say "Look at how long he's been around for", and use that as a basis for there argument.

I have seen you future

If people want to find a way to make themselves better than you they will. If they can't see your join date they will make fun of your title, avatar, what groups you're in of whether or not they recognize you.

If you post intelligently you should get respected pretty fast.

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

This is a really bad idea.

On a related note, ******'s mom has really nice boobs, and it doesn't take much booze or encouragement to get her to let the puppies out of the pen...if you know what I mean...

Well if it seems like a troll thread then I doubt the OP would be using a mythic.

Those are the only times I've seen people do something like that. I may be mistaken.

It depends what the question is about.

As a Veteran member OBVIOUSLY I'll know more about the site than someone who has been here for a year.

Plus, the fact that I don't have a higher base title just proves how cool and badass I am.

Don't -blam!- with Kerser!

I agree with the OP.

Instead, use titles for reference of account age. Example:

Elder member = really old. Legendary = Hmm couple of years old.

It would be (IMO) better if there is no specific year but instead just a date. For example:

Joined on 30th July

Only you should be able to see your join year. It would be a somewhat personal statistic for you to cherish. Because really, why should anyone need to know the year you joined, especially in the OP's case.

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

I remember when join dates were visible under the avatar.

Name 1 real issue.

Just because you forgot a password everyone else should have their history erased so you don't feel left out?

No.

What possible reason is there to just show the date?

That idea seems more ridiculous than the OP's.

It's not only him. At least 100 members have suffered from lost passwords, account hijacking or the auto deletion system. Why should they have to suffer. I'm sure if it was you, you would ask the same thing. Either that or you would want your old accounts join date put on your new one (Which Achronos won't do regardless of all the proof you have that the old account is yours).

There is none. It is just a statistic. I can say the exact same thing for having join year shown. There is no reason for it to be there but you still want it.

  • 02.12.2012 9:46 AM PDT

Key

How the hell could a join date spark controversy? And the supposed "elitism" is usually just Normies who are skewing situations in a way that makes it seem like there IS elitism or it's just Mythics being satirical about how all the other titles think they're elitists.

In other words: Get over it there's no reason to get rid of them.

Also,

He meant someone who has literally been here for a year, not someone who has been here for 5 years but is on an account that has been here for a year.
