In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Jason Jones don't like no sequels.
Eh, he may have said that but I believe people take it too literally. The current scope of media is to develop something be it a movie or video game and then develop a sequel without iterating upon the previous title.
A good deal of franchises, especially in movies, are criticized for a lack of alterations. Bungie titles have always been a bit of an exception IMO. Even looking at Halo, which isn't the best example I realize due to contractual obligations, its notable that the goals of Bungie are to release a sequel with something notable about it, something defining it as a true sequel and not a simple ".5" version.
Its possible to disagree, but I find that each Halo titles has done some truly impressive things over the sequels even if you found the core gameplay repetitive. Most of the following additions have had a massive impact on the industry:
Halo 2: Added dual wielding, vehicle boarding and, the biggest thing, established Xbox Live as we know it.
Halo 3: Theater, Forge, and Fileshare.
Halo:ODST: Firefight.
Halo:Reach: Impressive Netcode, the unbelievable Impostering system that allows Forge World to operate, and the "Megalo" system used to update gametypes and allow alterations like the Title Update to occur rather seamlessly.
While everything can be debated, I ultimately feel that Bungie and Jason Jones aren't against sequels. They understand the importance of making a brand and the power of trilogies in society. But, they always want to make sure they don't fall into the trap of being a sequel studio that attempts to rehash material without making large, significant improvements that push forward the industry.
I imagine that Destiny, depending on its nature as a game, will feature a Sequel or perhaps updates that promote such change and eventually perhaps large enough updates/expansions that would be considered "sequel" esque in their delivery.
You make some good points. I remember that there was a thread on this a few days ago and I realize people's views change as they continue to make games and innovate.
I also have come to realize Bungie knows when something is done TOO much and when it isn't. I mean, they could of kept making Halo games forever and got guaranteed success no matter what they made by Microsoft.
I do like all the cool feature we have gotten over the years in sequel games that ultimately add to our enjoyment of the franchises Bungie has created.
And in 1993, many games didn't have "good sequels" or it was very repetitive.
As for Destiny. It could very well have connections to halo or as far back as Pathways into Darkness. I am interested in what we will see come out of it.
And, I am sure Bungie will continue to expand on their next universe and make a huge and compelling story for all of us to enjoy.
