Let's get done with "Destiny" 1 first, then we'll see if there's a sequel.

That is some serious thinking ahead.

They've been working on it since ODST (maybe even before that), so I think it's safe to assume there will be more than one game set in the universe.

They've been working on it since late Halo 2 development.

"You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space." -Johnny Cash

I'm assuming that it depends on how well it does. If it does really good, they'll probably make a sequel.

If it sells well, of course.

Bungie has already proved they are willing to sell themselves out, of course they would make a sequel.

Get money, get paid, son.

Jason Jones don't like no sequels.

Eh, he may have said that but I believe people take it too literally. The current scope of media is to develop something be it a movie or video game and then develop a sequel without iterating upon the previous title.

A good deal of franchises, especially in movies, are criticized for a lack of alterations. Bungie titles have always been a bit of an exception IMO. Even looking at Halo, which isn't the best example I realize due to contractual obligations, its notable that the goals of Bungie are to release a sequel with something notable about it, something defining it as a true sequel and not a simple ".5" version.

Its possible to disagree, but I find that each Halo titles has done some truly impressive things over the sequels even if you found the core gameplay repetitive. Most of the following additions have had a massive impact on the industry:

Halo 2: Added dual wielding, vehicle boarding and, the biggest thing, established Xbox Live as we know it.
Halo 3: Theater, Forge, and Fileshare.
Halo:ODST: Firefight.
Halo:Reach: Impressive Netcode, the unbelievable Impostering system that allows Forge World to operate, and the "Megalo" system used to update gametypes and allow alterations like the Title Update to occur rather seamlessly.

While everything can be debated, I ultimately feel that Bungie and Jason Jones aren't against sequels. They understand the importance of making a brand and the power of trilogies in society. But, they always want to make sure they don't fall into the trap of being a sequel studio that attempts to rehash material without making large, significant improvements that push forward the industry.

I imagine that Destiny, depending on its nature as a game, will feature a Sequel or perhaps updates that promote such change and eventually perhaps large enough updates/expansions that would be considered "sequel" esque in their delivery.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

You make some good points. I remember that there was a thread on this a few days ago and I realize people's views change as they continue to make games and innovate.

I also have come to realize Bungie knows when something is done TOO much and when it isn't. I mean, they could of kept making Halo games forever and got guaranteed success no matter what they made by Microsoft.

I do like all the cool feature we have gotten over the years in sequel games that ultimately add to our enjoyment of the franchises Bungie has created.

And in 1993, many games didn't have "good sequels" or it was very repetitive.

As for Destiny. It could very well have connections to halo or as far back as Pathways into Darkness. I am interested in what we will see come out of it.

And, I am sure Bungie will continue to expand on their next universe and make a huge and compelling story for all of us to enjoy.

Well said. To quote Mr. Fillion: "I have faith in Bungie." They're a fantastic group of individuals and truly dedicated to improving not only the games we play, but the way in which we interact with games leading to an overall better entertainment experience.

Bam, said the lady.

Reading that short discourse between you two was quite interesting, especially how you defended Reach, Revan. Very quality stuff. I wanted to thank both of you for that.

Whatever Destiny is, we know we all have faith and a little bit too much congestion in our nether-regions waiting to hear more about it.

They do have a 10 year IP contract with Activision, meaning we will most likely see more than one game from them. Whether or not it is an actual sequel, is up for debate until Bungie announce their new game.

If it sucks it wont.

I agree with this. It'll probably depend on the success of the product. Hell it'll probably depend on the story too.

I doubt that Bungie working on just 1 team working on a game right now.

I think there is an Aerospace team, Destiny team, and another team for something else. The only person probably working on all of them would probably be Marty or Jason/others supervising.

Bungie normally has people working on different things at a time so it will be interesting to see what is being made.

I acknowledge my user name is stupid. However, I promise I'm not.

Disclaimer: The latter is a lie.

Good point about the 'teams'. I completely forgot about that aspect of Bungie.

The press release indicated that for the next 10 years Bungie would be working with Activision on a series of games. I assumed it would be three games, and that it would be a trilogy.

Basically my input too.

We have next to no info on the title "Destiny" in the first place.

Let's not talk about sequels. Slow down.

Jason Jones don't like no sequels.

So we should expect a new trilogy?

I am thinking that we will see new games set in the same universe.

For example, Pathways into Darkness was set 500 years before Marathon but was part of the "Marathon" storyline. But at the same time, Marathon wasn't really a sequel to Pathways into Darkness because it was such a different game.

I have even seen how Myth can be linked to Pathways into Darkness and Marathon by people claiming the comet was a S'pht ship (they can make ships out of planets and 10x the size of High Charity) and how the god king could of made the Myrcridia.

Is it confusing? Yes, Can it connect the 3 games? Yes
No.

Matt - Like a G Pix, like a, like a G Pix....

I think it would be funny if the game was called "Jason Jones' Destiny".

OT: Like Halo Expert said, why would we talk about this if we haven't seen the game or played it. We'd need a long while for us to answer this question.

I think Mr. Fillion is going to be a major character in their new game. Bungie seems to take a liking to him.
