Subject: What are the benefits of Bumper Jumper?

You pretty much can't jetpack if you use BJ since X is your AA. Otherwise, yes, you should.
I can jetpack just fine on bj.

Bumper jumper just dumps on all other layouts.
One should never be jetpacking often anyways, so its cons are almost none.

  • 02.13.2012 10:14 AM PDT

i kinda want to switch to BJ, i almost never use jetpack, but i feel like i would suck if i used Bj because im so used to playing on recon

  • 02.13.2012 11:07 AM PDT

I made the switch very recently from recon, actually. Needless to say i was a little lost, but i just kept actively telling myself, "b is reload, b is reload, b is reload".

now i cant imagine going back to recon, its just not good enough anymore. being able to aim, shoot and pummel while jumping is just way too nice. lol.

b is reload?!?!?! i might have a problem, for me, b has been melee since like H2, i will have severe difficulties adjusting

Breaking barriers.

There are no beneficial applications for Bumper Jumper in Reach like there were with halo 3.

Agreed. All the changes are good and add variety. Do we really want another Halo 3? Just running around with one gun and no armor abilities? It's good that 343 wants to try something new. Do we really want the same thing for three more games?

I prefer it because I don't have to remove my right thumb off of the joystick in order to jump, which can be useful for strafing in a fight.

I don't know how the default layout works now, though. You may be able to jump with the bumpers now on default, but I don't know.

i can aim and jump with my thumb without bumper jumper layout. its not that hard..

Maybe he has two thumbs on his right hand.

  • 02.13.2012 1:04 PM PDT

the way i hold the controller and play, my right hand ( right thumb is sideways. so the tip of my thumb is used to move around and the part i bend my thumb with is on the A, B, X buttons. i only need to take off my hand to switch weapons with the Y button..

  • 02.13.2012 1:07 PM PDT

and by sidways i mean its aiming west of the countroler instead of north while i hold the controller..just the way i learned to play. I also use RECON as my layout option. so B is to beat down, X is to switch gernades, and A is to jump..

My Halo Reach Forge Maps:
City Street
The Focus

For me it doesn't make a difference at all. If anyone tells you that you're not "pro" because you don't play on bumber jumper, then don't listen to them. Stick with what you like. There isn't any real benefits. But you can't jetpack and shoot very easily with bumber jumper.

Life is a journey, if you spend all of it with your nose in your map, you may miss some of the best parts.

Ability to aim while jumping.

That's about it, really. It's just a preference.

  • 02.13.2012 1:13 PM PDT

spiral out

I use recon just because that is what I've always used. It really all comes down to preference, but if you aren't really used to any layout, use bumper jumper to start. If you can get used to it then it is probably the best layout.

Itz Self-Explanatory, "You use the Bumper to Jump better with out having to use the buttons, instead.

It only takes a couple hours to learn a new layout.

not only that but my middle finger(which will become my new trigger finger) is not as fast as my index finger, so my shots will be slower paced

  • 02.13.2012 4:40 PM PDT

I've heard many say that your middle finger will always be a faster trigger finger than your index once you get used to it.

From Gears of War pros.

  • 02.13.2012 4:44 PM PDT

I would tend to agree. I found that in halo 1/2 i could shoot the plasma pistol way faster with my middle finger than i could using my index.

You clearly have never watch Halo 2 footage.

  • 02.13.2012 4:48 PM PDT

My thumb goes all retarded on the aimer when I claw for some reason or I'd be the first to switch.

I'm left handed so I really should be using south-paw, but try swapping sticks after playing for 5 years. Now that is a mind--blam!-. Now that is a challenge.
