I don't know about you but if I was facing a deadly enemy my last resort wouldn't be "oh well we tried our best, lets nuke ourselves and every other poor creature out there in the galaxy" Doesn't that strike you as odd? Why make a weapon that doesn't even kill flood. And cutting off the food supply what was supposed to happen? They seem fine to me.

There must be something more to this I hope we see in halo 3 (that rhymes) but for a race (possibly us) that can build halos and powerful starships... they're reasoning seems to be a little stupid .

Makes for a damn fine videogame, though.

It seems to me that there is more to the Forerunners' plan than what we know. After all, their civilization is far older than any that currenly exists.

"You must face the truth squarely and without flinching from duty. Our enemies are mortal no longer. Mercy for such as they is a chimera, self-deception is its only ally. Dedicate this weapon, given unto your hand at the behest of the Emperor, to their destruction. Regard its function as your only duty: you live only to bring cleansing fire."

it did pretty much kill the flood, it cut their food off and sent them back into a smaller state, like infection forms which the sentinals could then rally up

If you have the choice to save future races would you give up the lives of every one of yours? Not having a weapon that could kill the Flood completely it's as you stated, a "last resort" weapon. Now the more appropriate thing to say would be "Ignorant ignorant Covenant/Humans". Don't take this the wrong way. They didn't no any better so it wasn't really their fault. The Flood would have been dead in a couple of, well who the hell knows? It would eventually happened. Yet people had to look into them yet again. "If you don't know learn history you're doomed to repeat". Well, that's just what came to mind for this thread. Sorry for the rambling.

I remember them saying that the range of the halo weapons was... so many galactic radius. It would make sense that they moved out of the range of the weapons, or.... maybe the forerunners were the flood. Perhaps the few that were ok took shelter in the "ark" and sheltered when the weapon fired up. Maybe the forerunner systems were damaged in the blast and the survivors weren’t skilled enough to repair them. (Similar to what happened on pern if anyone read the dragons of pern books)

p.s one should never apologize for rambling
