Grenade spamming is ridiculous in this game. I never got the chance to play a lot of Halo 3, but I'm sure it wasn't as much of an issue then.

I play Squad Slayer and it's just people lobbing 4-5 grenades at a time... most of which somehow end up under my feet, even if they weren't meant for me. Anyway, it's stupid, because I don't even see anybody using their guns. I've literally stood by and watched as 6 or more frags were flying across the map, most of them exploding nowhere near their intended target.

And then there's the magical poop grenade, where somehow everyone that gets killed mysteriously craps out a mini-nuke. It wouldn't be an issue, except that you're so damn slow in this game that if it's anywhere near your feet you're screwed.

I've even been killed by grenades that were thrown into rooms randomly just because a grenade could be thrown there. It's retarded.

I like the TU, and I like Squad Slayer. But after 5 or 6 games I get so damn sick of mini-nukes flying all over the place I just can't take another match. That's why I play a lot of SWAT and Rumble Pit, because grenade spamming isn't as much of an issue (or in the case of SWAT, nonexistent). TU should limit everybody to only 1 grenade in Squad Slayer IMO. That's half as many grenades being thrown everywhere and twice as many players having to rely more on their trigger fingers.

tl;dr - Grenade spam takes a lot of enjoyment out of the game, especially Squad Slayer.

Agreed. In Squad, everyone should start with 1 grenade.

Nah, it didn't seem as bad in Halo 3 because everyone kept throwing spike grenades.

  • 02.13.2012 7:24 AM PDT

What do you mean it wasn't bad in Halo 3?

Has anyone ever heard these words before: make it rain - secure the laser!?

A game that starts with 20 mini-nukes is ridiculous. There are more in BTB I know, but there are larger maps and vehicles to balance it out.

But when everyone wants to pick Sword Base, Countdown and Asylum, it's not balanced.

I've only played about 50 games of H3. I've played every Halo except Halo wars, beginning with HCE back in 2001. However, I've only had broadband for about 3 years.

I played a crap-load of H3... in campaign and customs.

The blast radius is larger than it was in H3 - this is one of the reasons.
Also in H3 they had Spike grenades, they were pathetically useless (most of the time) unless you stuck someone with them.

My only annoyance with grenades is people who know they are about to die throw both of their grenades near them before they die tog et a lucky kill.

Damn annoying but just means you need to not run to the body once they die.

It's sad when you see someone and they throw 2 grenades before even starting to use their gun, even at cqc.. But usually they aren't that good and the nades don't kill you but sometimes they do and I just shake my head.

But hey since the nades are so powerful and they blow up so quick might as well use them in the right situation, even MLG guys spam/use nades all the time, but you can tell when it's a bad player and it's his only way to kills someone 75% of the time.

If you have to use labels like 'Retarded' to describe anyone who disagrees with you, Then your arguement has lost any weight it might of had, and I personally will assume you are just trying to get a rise out of people.

Also to those who think that having a high KDR means you're beast; just the fact that boosters exist is a prime reason that any thumbless noob can achieve it throwing the 'my high KDR validates my opinion" logic out the window.

The irony is; The grenade spammers are majority of the people who complain about Armorlock. People wouldn't get near as many rejections if they wheren't just locking to block a random nade.

"You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space." -Johnny Cash

The problem is that you can't jump as high or move as fast in the previous Halo games, so you can't really avoid the blast radius of a grenade in Halo Reach. I know how you feel, but it would still be a problem with even one grenade.

OT: i recently played H3 with my friends, and like no one uses their grenades, in fact me and my friends were laughing because of all the "black balls" just lying on the map from non-use, there was so much extra and nobody really cared to use them unless you were camping in a tiny room.

At least the fuse times were longer and you moved faster than in Reach.
OP, I'm with you.

Agreed. All the changes are good and add variety. Do we really want another Halo 3? Just running around with one gun and no armor abilities? It's good that 343 wants to try something new. Do we really want the same thing for three more games?

Grenade damage, fuse time, and range should be severely nerfed.

If you want the honest truth from me, though, CE had the worst grenade spam. Sure, their fuse times are longer, and movement speed was faster.

But you could carry four grenades of each type, and they did an enormous amount of damage.

Halo 3 had a great balance going with grenades.

Elites should not spawn with 2 grenades in invasion. most of my deaths are probaly from that in invasion

Welcome to the internet. Joy dies here.

I was hoping the TU would include a grenade nerf of some description, but it seems to be the other way around. If they're not going to nerf them, they should cut down the spawns, increase the spawn timers, and make players respawn without any. Initial spawns should include a single frag, but you shouldn't get to pass Go and collect $200 every time you charge into your opponents' camp, AR blazing.
That might sound a bit extreme, but that and a movement speed boost would make AL about as useful as hologram (in 4v4 slayer at least).

FINALLY!! Someone who understands. My k/d (not on this account) is .80 because every game I've played involved grenade spamming and spawnkilling because my teammates were too busy looking at shiny objects on the ground to help.

I agree with the one gernade per person, i've actually brought this idea up and told others. BUT KEEP IN MIND that those people that throw gernades are the ones that really suck at this game because they dont utilize their weapons. using gernades makes players bad. just keep your distance and you should be fine bro
