I think they both shouldbe kept out because:

1. Fall damage wouldn't be a problem because of the MJOLNIR's hydrogel system and because of the SPARTAN II's reflexes. They fell from the atmosphere and got up and walked around a few minutes later.

2. The only place in the books where they mention any of the SPARTAN II's receiving on-the-field medical attention is the use of their suite's biofoam system, which activates automatically.

And besides, how can any thing about the Halo series be considered "realistic" when the game is set 500 years in the future?
