Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

As Bungie gets further and further away from the Halo franchise, expecting fans have been waiting for news out of the developer about what's next. As anxiety builds for these fans, Bungie has kept quiet with rumors swirling about what the developer of Halo might be getting into next. While the development process for their top secret project has been kept secret, Activision did reveal a vague bit of information in the quarterly conference call about the new game.

"We continue to lay the foundation for our new universe from Bungie, one of the world's best developers," Activision told investors in the financial briefing. "Bungie continues to make incredible progress on what we expect to be a genre-defining new IP that will provide us with tremendous new opportunities, and which remains one of our key strategic growth pillars for the future."

Admittedly, this doesn't tell us much at all about what to expect from Bungie in the future. Rumors have suggested that the company is making an MMO of some sort, but nothing has been confirmed at this point. A developer diary from Bungie that was released last summer showed some more vague hints at what the developer is creating, and you can find that below.

How exciting! I'm really looking forward to an appearance by Bungie at E3 this year. Thoughts?

I really hope they reveal something, anything at E3. I'm going crazy.

The most dangerous gunslinger in the west.

I really don't mind if Bungie stays dark this year because I know every second is being used to perfect the next new game. Bungie always comes out with quality stuff.

After I saw you post this on twitter, I was debating on making this thread ;)

OT: I think it's great that even if Bungie doesn't shed light on what they're up too, Activision is willing to step up the plate. Excited to see what happens in the next few months as this transition becomes more clear.

I think we all know that based off how long we've been in the dark. We are playing a very intense version of the "waiting game" with Bungie right now. The question is, who will budge first: The fans or Bungie?

I think Bungie will reveal something major before Bungie Day. However, time can only tell.

Not going to lie, I clapped fairly loudly. This excites me and only furthers my mental speculation and anticipation. Thank you for this. :)

I honestly just want at least a teaser trailer. Even if it shows us absolutely nothing, I would be satisfied.

Genre-defining? Pretty bold words. I hope it's not too much of an exaggeration.

I'm sure this is slightly embarrassing for Bungie. I mean, really, genre defining?

What I'm interested in is:

"Bungie continues to make incredible progress on what we expect to be a genre-defining new IP that will provide us with tremendous new opportunities, and which remains one of our key strategic growth pillars for the future."

This could be very bad, or very good.

i think it could hold much more truth that Activision are letting on.

I've posted many a theory about Destiny being the definitive sandbox experience, set across thousands upon thousands of square miles upon a continent or even a planet.

I don't think Activision were embarrassing or exaggerating. In order for a solid 10 year contract to be made for funding purposes, I believe Bungie had to have had something truly groundbreaking to share.

...I really wish something would be released to whet our appetites...

Halo Reach was released in late 2010 - that's a year and a half we haven't had anything from Bungie.

We want moar!!!

Ketner says he's lost all faith in Bungie after seeing how terrible Reach was. Ketner will not buy any future Bungie games. Ketner loves what Bungie has done in the past (Halo 1-3), but Ketner cannot forgive Bungie for all of the pain and suffering due to the atrocity they called Reach.
Sven wonders why someone with no interest in Bungie's future titles continues to post on their site. Sven thinks the world has gone crazy.

I expect nothing less than genre-defining now.

Yep, genre-defining is expected.

True, but you hardly go throwing around the phrase "genre defining." I doubt the publishers of Gears of War 3 (Epic...?) would have released a press release saying Gears of War 3 was going to define the FPS genre.

Equally so with Assassin's Creed: Revelations. Nobody released a statement (to my knowledge) saying that this next installment of the Assassin's Creed franchise was going to change the way everybody thought of Action/Adventure games for years to come.

Sure, it's a pretty generic thing to just throw out there without a whole lot of actual meaning ("genre defining", that is), but it's not easy to go the "my big brother could beat up your big brother" route of building up the importance/value of an anonymous entity in the gaming world, as you must eventually reveal to the public your "big brother".

And it is then THEY who will ultimately decide whether your "big brother" is a six foot nine giant who benches 500 as a warm up, or a five foot nothing nerdy kid who couldn't beat up a 1st grader to save their mother.
