From the beginning chords I was hooked, the trumpets playing a heroic theme upon 117's emergance from the dust, then the slightly modified Halo string theme crept in upon the view of the artifact. The music grew until the brilliant light, then again the piano chords and cortana's final words "This, is the way the world ends...". Then...trumpets playing the heroic theme again *sigh* *waits and it soon ends*

I mean, the trumpet theme was great earlier and even sounded great at the end, it is no doubt a fantastic piece of work...but I believe one of the largest things that makes a Halo trailer is the original choral theme in closing....filled with awe and suspense and heroics itself (I would say with even more power than the trumpet theme...though I am a sucker for the choral music :D). Something where if you walked in on the last seconds of the trailer you could immediately know its Halo as there is no other game or movie trailer that ends thus. Should someone hear the last seconds of this trailer (except the people like me who have had it on loop for hours on end :P) they would probably not jump to such an easy conclusion, maybe they would think it was a movie or just some new game coming out, but knowing that is is Halo and it could only be Halo is another matter.

I am just curious as to why Marty (or Bungie) decided not to incorperate the traditional choral ending into this new trailer?

Maybe because they just don't want to take the road of Halo 2. This time, I think, they want to say that this is really the end of Halo... the finaly.

And also I, would scream "HALO 3" if I somewhere heard the trumpets... :P

The big decision they made for this trailer to stray from that which was the Halo 2 trailer was to make it so that it does not affect the game. This is a trailer not an "alleged" in game cutscene, it is indeed a trailer, having this as a cutscene would be quite odd in the game because you have probably already been playing as the chief for an hour and he need not have a new grand entrance.

I think the trailer itself was showing that this is going to be a grand finale, but I do miss one of the main things that made a "Halo" trailer not a "game" trailer.

Which is why i meant to exclude those who...post on this board for example :D

I am quite curious as to Bungie's or possibly Marty's (wishful thinking I know :P) response to this as I do not think this is something that they would do without good reason. Do any other Halo music buffs agree?

I did enjoy the music...I am a huge fan of Halo music alltogether...many songs are the most played on my ipod haha. I just think this trailer ended rather detached from the series, I think in the bigger picture he could have made it end just as well or better with the traditional Halo choral theme as the previous trailers.

Nah.....I thought it did the job well...........

In the military ( or past times) trumpets were a call to arms.........or charge to battle..........seeming that the human race is now on their last limb and it is all or nothing for them.......it seems to set the determination and excitement well..........

i love the halo music. marty is indeed a genius at his art. I think they did that whole trumpet thing to emphasize triumph and conclusion. this is the end and there is going to be a victor. the music gave us that message. that is why the music is amazing. it tells a story without words.

Reguardless how good the music sounded at the end. I am positive the ending would have been just as good or better should it have ended with the traditional Halo choral theme....which I believe is amazing and tells the story of the master chief(not just "a" story, as it has been with him since the first game), heroics and mystery and power all balanced into a simple choral theme.

Well, in the first game, there was a lot of mystery around the Covenant, thus the choral theme, and even in Halo 2 there was the mystery of the Flood. But in Halo 3, the Humans are sick and tired of the mystery and are just going to defend their home planet, thus the trumpets, as the person a few posts up said that trumpets were a call to arms, so it is showing that the Humans are rallying and driving out the Covenant from their homeplanet.

There is still plenty of mystery left...does the chief know what hes looking at? What happened to Cortana....apparently being stuck with a big tentacled thing made her a little crazy....the badass kind of crazy though haha. what is going to happen(ot earth, humans, covenant, etc...)?
