There are few times when I feel that I need it, but it might encourage people to break rules and then try to eliminate the evidence.

I thought the same thing.
However the benefits seem to out weigh the disadvantages.
Actually, it's the other way around. And as one wise member here said, once you click that submit button the thread is no longer yours.

I was a finalist :P

Why'd you disappear OP? I wanted to read your list of advantages on this very lonely night :(

Or when someone looks stupid and has already been quoted

"You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space." -Johnny Cash

Users would use this sort of feature in order to avoid getting banned. Let's say that someone posts a troll thread when there aren't any moderators online (it happens), but after the user gets his satisfaction after a short time, he could just delete it and the moderators would never know about it. Now unless there was some way to prevent this, I wouldn't think that the feature should be given out to everyone.

There are three people I serve. God, Chuck norris, and Evilcam.

I think the site is just fine without deletion.

smart, interesting, seems out of place.

Official fan of Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, (Problem with that?) Halo, and Bungie, also a total gaming junkie.

Deleting posts is a no-no, only Master Forum Ninjas and employees should have access to this button. I don't care if its only your own posts you can delete, it could still be abused.

If you click on it, you make this topic (or any topic that you may be viewing) "go away".

Pretty powerful stuff if you ask me.

I heard they started adding a delete button to keyboards now-a-days. Pretty high tech stuff.
