Subject: Why was this thread locked? Honestly..

I spent a huge chunk of time and thought typing out this thread in the reach forum, and before anyone would possibly finish reading it, it got locked. Where does it violate the code of conduct?

I have had a high amount of respect for the moderators on this site, but this is looking more like HaloWaypoint..

Apparently it isn't locked.

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

It isn't locked, but people did report your original post in the thread. It's their own reasons why, but I can say that it likely won't be locked.

I was a finalist :P

You can still reply to it, mate. All that happened was that your initial post was reported several times, making it minimize.

Ah, thanks all. Kindof panicked because I spent ages typing this up.

  • 02.14.2012 2:19 PM PDT

Wow, that kinda pisses me off to know that that post will always be collapsed for no reason.

EDIT: That is, assuming a thread is collapsed (forever) once it reaches a certain number of posts, rather than only being collapsed when in the actual report queue.

Report button is busted...I never use it.

It's unfortunate that many people will report a post simply because they don't like it instead of it breaking any rules. Fortunately your post is still alive.

Yeah, if it died, I would've just reposted it.

If I am not posting, then I am reading what you might have posted.

In my honest opinion, posting about another thread should be against the rules, and if it is locked the person asking should Pm a Ninja.

That's your opinion. I think the community forum is a great place to go when I don't know something. It's not like I was advertising my thread, just had a question.

Having never posted in the Reach forum I can offer little insight, but I would imagine that most of what you have said has been said before. I'll be honest and say that I read most of your first section, saw it was DMR bashing and immediately thought "oh christ not this -blam!- again". Others probably had the same reaction and just reported it.

I totally disagree, I like to see the reasoning for stuff being locked or reported, helps me understand the rules far better than actually reading them.

If you read the whole thing, there is a lot more than the DMR section. That's just 1/5 of the post.

The Ninja's were hired and given the privilege to help others with the power of bungie there hands, that is why you have them, so go and ask them, instead of posting a thread it's been done a lot of times.

As mentioned above, it generally helps me interpret the rules. Also, my luck in getting a PM back has always been very low.

lolno, stop being a prick. They weren't hired, and their job is to moderate, not "help with the power of Bungie in their hands". Don't be ridiculous. They ban people that break the rules. That's it. If you have a question, you can go to them, but it's not their job and you shouldn't expect them to waste their time.

While I agree that threads like these are usually annoying, this was different because the thread in question wasn't actually locked (it was a mistake, and you all sorted that out for him). If a thread gets locked and you don't know why, PM a mod. If they don't know, then post it here. I think that would kill about half of the threads around here, not to mention if the mod that you send it to feels like it they might find out for you. Definitely try a mod first, then post here. However, this case is different, and I don't really see a problem with it, personally, although it can be locked now because it's kind of getting derailed and the OP's question has been answered.

1. I am not being a prick
2. I know that they are not hired.(I was just using the term of it.)
3. They have been given power to ban people, lock and delete threads.(I wasn't talking about them having all the power.)
4. They were given the option to not have to be a moderator, so they chose to be one, and they are there to help when they can.

I am telling the OP to resort to a moderator so that he can get a better idea of why, I understand that members of the community are here to help too, but the moderators can help him a lot better than some of us.

Citizens of Me! The cruelty of the old Pharaoh is a thing of the past. Let a whole new wave of cruelty wash over this lazy land.

Hear the word of Pharaoh. Build unto me a statue of ridiculous proportion. One billion cubits in height......that I might be remembered for all eternity!

And be quick about it!
