Subject: I miss Bungie's creativity...

In years gone by Bungie would typically give the community something a bit special in their most recent game during the holidays both to thank loyal players and give the game a bit of hype.

343 hasn't done this as much. I understand they try, but some e-Valentines don't seem to compare to what we have been lucky enough to receive. I just hope they focus on creating some excitement a bit more in the future. They could have added a jackpot to the double's lists today, for example. Maybe they coulda thrown in a Fiesta list for New Years. Little things like that show a continuing interest in their game, as well as a care for the community. I just miss that.

I am posting this here because I don't much care for 343's forums. Anyway, thoughts?

What creativity?

Their first game was a cheap knock off of pong.

Marathon was Doom, but with the ability to look up and down and some paragraphs in the walls.

Myth was playing catch up to other contemporary Real time strategy/tactics games.

Halo was just bringing a first person shooter to a console.

Where is this creativity you speak of?

I agree. I think Bungie destroyed Halo for me, but that was one thing I did like about them. The holiday playlists. Good times.

Did you read my post? I miss what they used to do for the community around the holidays and such. They'd usually put out some list, or hype something up in the game.

Fourth of July: Flagstravaganza.
Bungie Day: Bungie vs World
Valentine's Day: Ranked Doubles in H3, FF Doubles in Reach
Zombies was hyped around Halloween several times
I'm pretty sure they threw up a Fiesta list around New Years at some point.

They just did a lot more than 343 is showing. It'd just be nice to see the same sorta creativity for the holidays and love for the fanbase out of them as Bungie used to show. I think it'd certainly help the game keep it's name out there, and it might help people take to 343 more too.

Think back to CE Bungie.

343 doesn't know what to do with their community yet and have so far just been awkwardly trying to copy some of Bungie's old practices.

Let them learn what works and what doesn't with time and patience.

Creativity? Bro, that's why Bungie got new IP's, so that they don't stagnate with just Halo.

Reach makes me want to gargle gasoline whiling jerking myself off with sandpaper.

doubles attack was cool on valentines

My thought is that your life must be pretty sad if you care enough to complain about a video game company not helping you celebrate Valentine's day.

You asked for thoughts, I gave you thoughts.

Join the Spartan I Project today.
We are here to help members achieve a 1,750 gamer score, unlocking all of the armor permutations for both Spartans and Elites, and rank up to your full potential.

Still not convinced? Check out our Promo video for a more in depth look at what we are all about.

I'll support the OP since it looks like rag on OP day. I too was looking forward to a special playlist today like I do on every holiday. They always brought something fun to the table. It won't kill me but it was fun seeing a special playlist pop up with some added bonuses like jackpots and double exp.

I'm sorry. Bungie destroyed Halo? Bungie IS Halo. What the hell are you talking about?

If it was created by 343i and moved to Bungie and they ruined it, then yes you can say Bungie destroyed Halo.

And if you people think they just moved FPS to console then you're wrong. The whole detailed personal touches like how the plasma grenade flares after it's exploded. Or just see how it's evolved from 1 game to the other.

343i doesn't give a rats shoes about Reach. And why should they? As far as Im concerned, that games a waste of resources and time on their part.

^ this.

Even with halo ... the fact that 343 could re-release CE using the reach engine proves how little bungie changed. Throw in a few perks and thats it FOR 10 YEARS WORK.

Want further proof ... check out bungie's own forum.
Or go see how well reach continues after the initial release.

lol ... guess this could explain why they are taking sooooo long to bring out the PS3 title.
bunige: 'what, we cant just port the engine?'
bungie: 'what are we meant to do than?!?'

Moron. Maybe because 10 years ago they didnt have the technology or machines capable of creating textures so quickly. Back then. Halo was alot of work which now could be reproduced very quickly only due to improvements in technology

Has any other game developer overhauled their engine every single game? Has CoD? Battlefield? Mass Effect? Skyrim? No. They build and rework what was already there. Starting a new engine from scratch takes months of hard work and its very hard and time consuming. I bet you could run a graphics overlay on almost ANY new title using its engine on its previous installments.

I'm on your side buddy. But Battlefield is the new MODERN warfare. They perfected 3. But we're cool on everything else. :)

I was a victim of a series of accidents, as are we all.

Bungie is what the community makes of it, if your creative Bungie is creative. You are part of Bungie.
