Thread re-structured:

What are some great features Bungie.net could use to create a more secure environment for it's populace?

And to those who already posted here...I acknowledge that my idea sounds ridiculous but I have my reasons....No regrets.

If you are willing to post something in the public forums, why should it be private?

Yeah, this. There's no "privacy" in what you're posting on public forums.

I use that link regularly on other users' profiles, and not just for moderating purposes. IMHO, the "more posts by this user" link is one of the most convenient links on this site.

Then by that logic our gamertags should be revealed forcibly and private groups should no longer be private.

The webteam has been kind enough to allow us the option to show or hide our gamertag. Private groups aren't exactly that private.

The only ones who can enter a group without becoming a member is the webteam itself. Moderators and members are not subject to that.

Nooo... ?

The forums are public forums (ie everything on them goes on the internet for public viewing). Private groups are, private, and gamer tags are too if you want. It's not the same logic.

What you're saying, is the same as the idea that you should be able to go on national TV, and say something, and then erase any trace of it (and not from a copy right perspective).

Half drunk...expect stupidity....I'll save that for later. I just wouldn't mind a little more control of what people can see when they click on my profile.

With what you said, you agree to the oxymoron of "private groups". The only privacy that is possible is from non adminstriative accounts. The veil of privacy is quite thin as it is fairly easy for the admininstrators to gain access to groups.

It's simple then. Don't post it. I don't see why you would be ok with posting something thousands of people can see, but you don't want people browsing your profile to see. I mean, if you're drunk, or in a stupid mood, don't post.

You are all loved beyond measure.
I, like you, am a light-sound-vibration complex that resonates with others. I have hopes and dreams and ambitions, just like you! I AM, and so are you! Yes, we are one and the same, you and I.

The vast majority of people who post publicly on any public forum are interested in maintaining a public identity in that public community.

That's like saying "Forget what I'm about to say" before you say stuff. What's the point of saying it if you really don't want people to remember it?

I can kinda see where the OP is coming from.

On a singular basis, generally your posts reveal very little information about yourself. If one wanted to however, they could go through every post you've ever made and essentially get a 'profile' of you.

That's the best I could come up with.

Nope, I've been actually utilizing Google to access information on a few individuals that might no the location of another individual I'm looking for. I also use google to dig up very old posts.

So you are saying you wish your posts where more anonymous? Honestly and as a network analyst I can guarantee this as fact, once you put any form of information about yourself on the web somebody with the right tools or means can see it. Now there are laws governing who sees your information, and encryption and such to prevent interception of raw data and such which is a debate not allowed here.
Generally for legal purposes websites contain a Priavcy Statement which you are required to accept before you can use their services. In due terms this tells you what you are getting in too.

tl;dr click the link in the text read it over, you can't say your privacy is compromised, I promise Bungie isn't going to be kicking in your doors anytime soon :)

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

Please don't completely remove and rewrite your entire OP to form a completely different thread after people have begun to respond. Make a new thread or reply with your new question.

All you've done here is confuse people who enter the thread and now have no idea what people have been talking about for the last 20 posts.
