Well. I think that it's the responsibility of us, who have been here for a while, to help the new people out. So, what I do is browse the Underground looking for new threads with no replies (or maybe 2 or three or something), and answer people's questions before they get flamed by the trolls. That's probably the most constructive way I can think of to help improve the state of the Underground.

You're never too good/veteran to help somebody new/ignorant out. Elitism is not cool.

Oh, and please, no firkin yellow banshee references! That is so old!

- Reiginko

I agree with Reignko. We should try to help out. When I am there I have tried to help.

But with all of the old members being here and the new members being there, I sometimes feel that the septagon is a retirement home and the underground is a club of some sort. Damn kids. :D

I agree. I think it's cool for you guys to help out. But don't act like a moderator. Don't issue warnings.

Yo Halo53, I'm real happy for you and I'ma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best bungie.net profiles of all time. OF ALL TIME!

Warnings? What am I going to say?
"You do that again and I'll, I'll.....I'll... oh you just wait until I get moderator priveleges!!" :D

LOL! that's funny man. No just do what i do: if you do that again, i'll warn the mods, and they will take care of you!

or just simply warn the mods right away(the best tactic)

I really wish that I had joined the forums earlier *sigh*. If I had then I might be able to help out in the Underground. As it is, I don't think that a flamer/troll would listen to a month-long member any more than an older member. That's just them. All I can do is hang my head and sigh. Oh well.

*sniff* Sadly, I too, am new. I wish I'd have checked out these forums long ago, but until seeing this one, I thought forums were useless. The bonus here is that there are admirable moderators that actually do their job. And actual Bungie employees come and answer our questions. I almost feel.. important. ;D

It's like throwing gasoline on a fire in a high wind.
I haven't seen it much in the Underground, but then I find the topics and posters here in the Septagon much more interesting and entertaining, so I end up spending much of my time here.
If I ever run across a troll or someone who's just wasting space with inane topics (What color will YOU wear on November 9th?), I try and restrain my hands and move to a different topic or forum. I may not be helping prevent someone from responding to the trolls, but at least I'm not feeding the problem.

i practically go insane just goin in Underground. i posted a topic about the spam, but in less than an hour it was on page 10 , and that was yesterday , i can't even find it anymore.

i think some locking of forum privlages is in order.

Like Shishka said, posting threads complaining about the state of the Underground will do nothing to improve it. The best way to improve the Underground is to post intelligent posts yourself. As Confucious said, "It is better to light one small candle than to curse the darkness".

Confucious also said "He who go to sleep with itchy butt, wake up with smelly finger." :P

We all know about the state of the underground. It has been said before, but why not say it again. The 2 moderators we have can;t be on 24 hours a day, unfortunately. Even stosh and shishka need sleep, oddly. Thats where we come in. Try and help out. Of course we can't lock thread or move it or whatever, but do the best you can. Like Reignko said. Just make sure you bring extra matches, though, because the underground is a long, dark cave.

Are you sure of that?

Vicious slander.

Anyhow, it's one thing to help out, another to act like a moderator, when you are not. If you feel it is necessary to direct someone to the proper forum, please do so politely. If you feel someone is out of line, instead of responding, message stosh and/or myself, and we'll take care of it. Don't tell people "Your post is going to get locked," and for heaven's sake, avoid trolls. It's easier and not nearly as messy to just report them to us.

Yes, I hope people didn't think I meant to act like a moderator. Just help out, that's all.

More moderators will be here sometime in the near future. It's my fault, you can blame me. =) Between E3 and now moving this week, I haven't been able to devote the time I should to the moderator program.

Next week, you'll see some changes. We have more forums coming - including an offtopic forum and we'll be recruiting new moderators to help with all of that.

In the meantime, thanks for doing your part to contribute and make our forums a better place!

An off topic forum is something I think we really really need. I'm just hoping it doesn't turn into a spam pit. This is where the new moderators will come in. And I am sure everyone, or just about everyone, is willing to help out. Some are trying to help out now as it is.

Crimson Clover

But wouldn't the purpose of the off-topic forum be to collect all the spam so that it won't clutter up the rest of the forums? If not, then what would be the purpose of an off-topic forum? And the new moderators, would their purpose be to keep the peace in the off-topic forum, assuming that that's where they go, because what would be the significance in locking a forum that is off-topic in an off-topic forum? Sure, there will be a lot of spam, but better to have it on an off-topic forum than any of the other forums.
