Hey guys are we talking about before or after MC blew up their giant sacred ring?

coz if after...why wouldn't they hate us.
And if before..bungie hadn't thought of proghets yet.

The Covenant forces wanted to destroy humans before the events of Halo 1. The question I'm asking is why, why destroy us instead of trying to making humans PART of the Covenant? See above for the facts in the Halo storyline as of now!

It interests me as well. As one of the people of the world that's always asking questions and always searching for answers, I can't seem to fathom why they want us dead so badly....they did attack first and a long time before we even knew..about them...wait a second...there was a theory on here a while ago, not too long, that Colonel Ackerson had found a Halo already long before Keyes found it....I wonder...did Ackerson perhaps piss off the Covenant before they attacked us? Maybe he's the one who started all this...I don't know; that thought just popped into my head as I typed that.

The Covenant are basicly one big religious cult
If there's one thing i know about cults it's that the leaders worst nightmare is outside influences. if humans weren't going to go along with the religion of the Covenant then they must be destroyed before they break the religious glue that binds the covenant

All religious collectives on Earth have a history of fearing and hating what doesn't fit in with their worldview and seek to assimilate or destroy it before it can threaten their belief system.

Why should aliens be any different about it?

Yes, but the thing is we had never even seen or heard of/from them. We offered zero threat to them. And besides, if they wanted to make the threat completely null, they could have gone and offered us a place in the Covenant. But instead, they went and attacked us out of the blue.

If you think about it, if humans had forerunner technology like they did (They stole it, not invented it) we would be winning. And it's 6+ alien species that make up the covanant vs Humans. I'd say the prophets see humans as too much of a threat and that it would be almost impossible to assimilate them into the Covanant. But maybe the prophets are planning to eventually assimilate humans, there has been evidence that the covanant subdues a species before assimilating them, "The taming of the hunters" , the "Grunt Rebellion"(Yeah-that probably went well for the grunts.).

Or perhaps there is something of a conspiracy here...other than one Truth has concoted. When a nation is in turmoil, collapsing on itslef, and on the brink of massive social and cultural breakdown, such as 1930's era Germany, sometimes its leaders feel what they need to do is galvanize their people. Somethime this is done with social works programs, or sometimes with a cultural revival.

Other times it's a war.

History has many instances of leaders picking an nation or group of people of some giant spinning wheel and saying to their people "Hey, it's [insert name here]'s fault. Lets kill them and solve all of our problems!" Sounds crazy, but it happens often enough to merit thought.

We are in control of key planets to begin the "Great Journey". The crystal on REACH, the crystal in Cote D' Azur, and the ARK on earth. Who knows (if not cleanly stated in the books) maybe we fired first at Harvest, and the whole We are the god's instruments line was made up by Ackerson along with alll the crap he is supposedly pulling with ONI.

Well, I'm pretty sure that there's no WAY the humans are gonna be part of the Covenant. Let's see how the negotiations pan out shall we...

Truth:Hey, we've killed billions upon billions of your people. Want to join our group so you won't be slaughtered?
Lord Hood:*shoots Truth in the face with the H:CE pistol* There's your negotiations.

Wow. Ended badly. Anyway...

As for Harvest. It's said in the books by some one (can't remember who right now) that we were fired upon first. Like I stated above, I'm pretty sure we pissed them off by going to Halo. And by "we" I mean Ackerson.

Humanity has made earth its home, earth is more than likely the location of the Ark, the Covenant believe the Ark to be a Holy Relic, problem solved, also after Halo: Combat Evolved, MC destroyed the holy ring.

"
It's not too known, but in the book Fall of Reach, the destroyer group sent to investigate Harvest just got a transmission from the Covenant when they first saw them saying they were an affront to the gods, and the covenant were their tool or some stuff like that... then opened fire and immediately destroyed most of the destroyer group."

Pretty much yeah, I was about to post the same exact thing when I saw this. Basically the Covenant are all about religion, something the Prophets have tought them and given them a huge seat of power. The Prophets are now lying betraying bastards, with the power of the entire Covenant, a selection of diversed races, at their hand. I'm not sure why exactly the PROPHETS told them to attack earth, but I'm sure the COVENANT did it becuase the PROPHETS told them. Yeah that's pretty much it, we don't really know. Ask a writer or something.

Thanks for that info. I guess it appears that no one "really" understands the anger the phophets have toward humans...maybe this is part of the plot of halo 3...this is what I'm starting to think now! Thanks

Yeah, all we know is that the Prophets lie to the Covenant about the humans, and when that's found out the Civil war begins in Halo 2..

We have to guess about the rest..I think it's pretty probable that the Prophets and Humans and possibly the Elites were an old Covenant...

Did you notice all those Arbiters? Like all the little memorials? There was easily 300, and there weren't that many things going on (like the taming of the Hunters or the Grunt Rebellion) going on...

...Maybe there were Arbiters in the old Covenant as well, and the new Covenant doesn't ask questions now since the Arbiters are kinda like the SPARTANs..not much is known about them.

Yup. They remember how we were the strongest in the old Covenant, and they want to take us out while we're still riding with 'training wheels' (we are still weak, know nothing of our past, and have lowclass tech)

Kinda obvious, I think the covenant hate the humans because the humans tried to stop the covenant from destroying the universe, anyone agree

Its what Captain Keyes said at the ceremony, when Pillar of Autumn was being decommisioned. He said that people stull hurt each other out of hate, still killed each other. He said humanity never asked itself why they deserved to survive. Maybe they don't.

Assume humans are the Forerunners. Say the Prophets have found evidence of actual Forerunners, the Great Ones, on Harvest. The Prophets take a ahip to Harvest to investigate and see if it's true. Then when they get there they see Human's are technologically primative and not as strong as some Covenant races. The Prophets, knowing full well that the Covenant is only held together by religion, decide that know else can find out that "The Gods" are "inferior." Then there you go, slap a cover story like Holy War on it and you have genocide. Just imagine, if word got around that Human's were Forerunner, every Covenant race would turn on the Prophets, and the Prophets are just trying to save themselves.

Except the Brutes. The Brutes don't care about the truth. All they want is power. If you remember, 343 told Tartarus what the Halos REALLY do right in front of him. They could care less if the humans are the Forerunner, or that Earth is the Ark. They're just really power hungry.

In the book Fall Of Reach the Spartans are told that the Planet named Harvest made long range contact with an vessel of unknown region, UNSC forces lost contact with Harvest and sent a scout ship but again lost contact with the ship and assembled a battle group to investigate adn found the Covenant ship in orbit around the glassed planet and was attacked, again UNSC forces made further contact and only as the UNSC tried making contact the Covenant opened fire, and there was one transmission sent to the UNSC in human language stating this "Your destruction is the will of the Gods- and we are their instrument" and so the war began and the Spartan program was given a go ahead for phase two and henceforth the armour was created.
