Subject: Frog Blast the Vent Core!

When I first played Marathon: Durandal I thought I heard a Bob say:

"Frog Blast Defence Core!"

Am I stupid for thinking this is what he said? I believed it was an outburst of enthusiasm like "get up so I can kill you again!" and so I was left wondering what this "Frog Blast Defence Core" was all about.

What do you think this legendary phrase might really mean?

PS. Sorry if this belongs in Universe territory, I believed the quote is part of Bungie lore.

I'm not so sure that's a good idea, He might create a wildcat destabilization of the fusion reactors core.

It doesn't.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

it is a random phrase, it means nothing.

But is relevant to everything.

"You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space." -Johnny Cash

I don't think that it has any secret meaning/s, but I could be wrong.

"That's about all that can be said for plots, which anyway are just one thing after another, a what and a what and a what.

Now try how and why."

According to the Marathon scrapbook,

One of Bob's more unusual lines,"Frog Blast the Vent Core!" caused considerable controversy among fans. What was really said, and what did it mean?Dough explains how this arose:
"The idea was that some of the assimilated Bobs become insane from their conversion and run around yelling nonsense. Alex said to me 'say something random,' and that phrase tumbled from my lips. Totally spontaneous. WHile I could have sat down and thought up something more random than that, it worked out well, since it sounds close enough to a real sentence that it kept people guessing and generated some fascinating (and totally wrong) discussion about what the phrase was and it's meaning. One popular theory was 'God bless the Marine Corp!', which was a fair guess, but still wrong."

smart, interesting, seems out of place.

Official fan of Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, (Problem with that?) Halo, and Bungie, also a total gaming junkie.

It means you should frog blast the vent core.

That's where frog blast the vent core came from, Marathon. Yeah, this topic could technically belong in both the Bungie.net Community and Bungie Universe forums.

I'm too lazy to say this the millionth time in my own words, so I'll just steal a answer from Bungiepedia:

This seemingly gibberish statement can occasionally be randomly seen on Bungie.net. Its origins are from the Bungie game Marathon 2, as randomly spoken string of words by an assimilated or "exploda bob". According to the Marathon scrap book, during the development of Marathon 2, when Alex asked Doug (the voice of bob) to utter a random phrase for use with the assimilated bob, he immediately shouted "frog blast the vent core!"

It is believed by Marathon 2 fans that the term is a hint from the game as to the method to reach a secret area of a certain level in the game Marathon. Now, however, the term is freely used to mean just about anything -- or nothing -- when referring to Bungie or Bungie-related topics.

I'm not so sure that's a good idea, He might create a wildcat destabilization of the fusion reactors core.

And Echo-419 gets shot down.

Just as long as everyone agrees not to make the Caps Lock their "run" key then I am sure people would have an easy time with frog blasting vent cores

Yes, there're too many numbers in my name.

Its meaning is nonexistent, its purpose is subtle yet effective.
