As I'm sure most people are aware by now, in the H3 trailer, MC has an old-style assault rifle, and parts of his suit have changed (most notably the gloves). I may have a reason for this. I'm not claiming it's true, but it is at least possible, and raises some questions.

I seem to remember numerous people attesting that they heard 343 Guilty Spark mention something about your suit during The Library, back in H1. Apparently, he asks you why you are using a Mk V suit, when you could have a Mk XII. This ties in with this theory on what happened to the Forerunners, and who the Reclaimers are. That theory states that the Forerunners left microbes that would someday evolve back into Forerunners on a planet called Earth, and that these organisms had the Forerunners' knowledge encoded into them, so that they would follow the same tecnological path as well. This explains why MC always knew which button to press when using Forerunner tech (remember the bit with the light bridge in The Flood?). It also suggests that all (or at least most) human inventions were invented by the Forerunners at some point - including the MJOLNIR suit.
At the end of H2, MC was on a Forerunner ship, headed for Earth. In the trailer, he's on Earth. So what happened on the ship?

I think that MC found a Forerunner armoury on board that ship, and in it were Forerunner weapons and suits. I think he's now wearing a MJOLNIR suit that the Forerunners made, one that humanity is due to invent in a few years time.

Any thoughts?

No, the gloves are actually different. Somehow, MC has a new suit. We've all seen how meticulous Bungie are about their games, they're not going to have MC in a new suit just so they get to put some new abilities in - there must be something in the storyline that allows him to get that new suit, like getting back to Earth at the beginning of H2.

Q. What do you get when you add 1 man, 1 car, and 1 rocket built for a jet?

A. A black smudge on the side of a cliff.

That is an interesting theory, but a bit far-fetched.

Not much in the Halo 2 storyline about how the Chief got his new suit. Maybe a sentance. I seriously think that MC is not going to go and get some new gloves just for the hell of it.

I mean what would you have told a person after halo 1 came out told you " in the second game theres going to be this mechanical giant bug looking thing that goes through the citys on earth and also there was going to be these angry monkeys that could kick an elites butt and they call them brutes. I bet you wouldnt have beleived him then either. You guys dont know whats going to be in the game for now so let people come up with there theorys cause you dont know what will be in halo 3 and either do i.

O yeah and random_factor thats some good thinkin i didnt think about the suit in the forerunner ship

Sega Mega Drive, Golden Axe and Sonic all day!

if someone had said the majority of halo 2 would be set on another ring, at the start of 2004, people would be crying for blood :D

interesting theory though. theres also the problem of how the first level is going to play. it needs to be relatively easy for any new players to break their teeth on, setting it on a ship full of covenant might be a bit hard?

Great theory. It would also explain how MC ends up with the assault rifle, which apparently is a moddified version of the H1 weapon. I think its definitely the most realistic theory to date and it would tie in with the fact that the arc is on Earth......

The epic tale that never ends

unyielding bungie has announced that it IS mc, they are quite stinchy on info but they do not lie on the info they DO give

I personally dont think that his armour is a forerunner armour suit. Its still good ol' human-made mjolnir, his gloves have changed and I think it is either a graphical touch up or just that he had to change his gloves cos they were knackered.

I like the idea of him finding stuff on the forerunner ship, but if the ship was the centre of High Charity then the Covenant would have already stripped any decent forerunner tech.
