In halo 1 (PC edition) vehicles in multiplayer were invincible. This made for an interesting, careful style of play. For instance on blood gulch, when blue team lost a warthog to red team, red team had the advantage of a joint strike. When they had two warthogs, they could ship 6 people over to blue teams base quickly, effectivley causing a massive flag capture.
My point is that in halo 3, there should be the option of turning on invincibillity for vehicles. It would allow for a unique style of play, which would be refreshing for players. Perhaps it could even be included in certain rounds of the matchmaking playlist. Bring it back, bungie!

i was thinking they should allow you to change everything like CSS (maybe a dev console) so you can change jump height and stuff.

Actually, there are indestructible vehicles in both versions of Halo 1.

Although it's more realistic to have destructible vehicles, good gameplay shouldn't be compromised for realism, and having indestructible vehicles is more balanced because the health of the vehicle isn't linked to the health of the player so a player would be pretty hard to kill in a destructible vehicle.

You face an opponent who has never known defeat, who laughs in foreign tongues at your efforts to survive. This is Reply suicide.

The only way to properly do this, is to revert back to pre-banshee warfare.

As well as pre-shield only health bar...

I think we should make ALL the vehicles have a health bar (like the covie vehicles in Halo 1 Campaign) and whether or not the guy in the vehicle is close to death or not... The vehicle should be destroyable.

I, for one, am sick of being raped by a tank, simply 'cause the guy inside cannot be killed by ANYTHING except four sticky grenades or two rockets. Or maybe a WHOLE LOT of gunfire. While this is REALISTIC... The tank being able to "regenerate" with a person like that is STUPID. I think the vehicles (warthogs, ghosts, and banshees included) should have their own health bars that are permanent. And there's no way to "destroy" a vehicles, unless someone is in it. And no way to RESPAWN a vehicle, unless it's been destroyed. THIS would twist gameplay considerably.

modding much? I don't think Bungie would go that far.

And no, invincible vehicles would be terrible, how would you like it to have the enemy to have every vehicle? Especially if there will be 32+ players which would eequal to a lot of vehicles, they would win instantly. So instead they should be destructble,as it balances everything out and keeping from one team from becoming to powerful.

Plus, don't you like that feeling when you blow up a warthog and it kills everything nearby?!

No i don't think invincible vehicles would be good, It would be a bit crap if someone got into a tank and owned you for the whole of the game because you couldn't blow the damn thing up. Also it would be unrealistic and like prefer things to be realistic.

It's easier to control every vehicle when they are destrucible because if you're in a vehicle and there's a vehicle that you aren't using but your enemy might be able to use to attack you, then you can destroy it.

You'd still have to kill the player inside the vehicle for the vehicle to be destroyed if vehicles were destructible, and then once you do kill the person in the vehicle, then you get nothing as a reward.

Exactaly, the enemy can just take every vehicle that you use and make one big unstoppable assault.

I think that vehicle invincibility should be optional for MP custom games so people can have their fun, but in SP and matchmaking should be turned off except for like a wierd matchmaking gametype where it would matter. I like it in halo 2 when you go to the other persons base and destroy all of their vehicles. Vehicle destruction added a sense of strategy and realism to the game, which in my opinion is good. It would be cool to have not just vehicle parts that would fly off, but like individual marks from every bullet or plasma bolt that hits it so that it would be even more realistic. With the power of the 360, me thinks it's possible, eh?

Perhaps not in a matchmaking playlist then, because in 1 minute twenty seconds i got 6 posts replying no.
However, i stand strong in my belief that it should be allowed in custom games.
Furthermore, let me clarify my idea. The host should be able to choose which vehicles are invincible, and which are not, not just one button which decides vehicle invincibillity. Sure, blow up that tank. Granted it was not nice on blood gulch where two tanks -blam!- everyone moving toward their base. Respawn timers for vehicles should not be limeted to half time or twice the time, but rather it should be adjustible down to the second.
Oh and halo 3 will definatley not have 32+ players.

every one is blowing it way out of proportion. it simply brings a much more conservative stratagie to the game, rather than running out an blowing stuff up.
This actually brings MORE strategie to the game.

dont make the vehicles indestructable, that would be nonsense... i can steal a vehicle, snipe someone out of it, BR them, nade em, rocket em, and blow em to hell!! so why make them indestructable? just because i have red bases hog, doesnt mean imma blow it up, i ALWAYS keep them alive and use them if possible, especially on relic. screws over the bomb team/flag offense every time. and thats some burnt hot -blam!-.

Wut they should do is make the default be that vehicles have their own health bars. they could make an option to make vehicles invulnerable, but make it so that ranked play cannot be done with those options.

i hate it when all of the fire to hit the vehicle hurts the driver, i reckon the vehicle should take the fire unless the driver is actally hit, vehicles should be destructable.

I think it would be cool if there were an option to turn vehicle destruction on or off. However I'm pretty sure that bungie has made up their mind as to what they are going to put in halo3 as far as gameplay mechanics go.

You hog gets destroyed while making a run on the enemy base...............too bad........have a backup plan...................

If your vehicle got destroyed, then that generally means that you died as well and the enemy wouldn't have any reward for killing you.

Good gameplay shouldn't be compromised for a sense of realism, and destroying the other vehicles so that none of your enemies could use them is just a cheap, unfair tactic and it shows that destructible vehicles make the game unbalanced.

You can stop them...........But they will just retrieve the vehicle and keep it up until your squad is out of nades and rockets...................

If you killed somebody in a vehicle, then you can usually take their vehicle to create an even more effective resistance, and since it's pretty easy to destroy an indestructible vehicle because the health of the vehicle isn't linked to the health of the player, it makes the game more balanced even if the enemy does continue to get back into their vehicle.

If you can steal a vehicle or use a Sniper Rifle, a Battle Rifle, Grenades, or a Rocket Launcher to kill somebody in a vehicle, then there's still no reason that explains why vehicles shouldn't be indestructible. Also, even if you don't destroy the vehicles of your enemies, there are many people who still do.

I think that that would be okay as long as the health of the vehicle isn't linked to the health of the driver.

Who likes to take steps backwards?

Just because we're taking things out of chronological order doesn't mean that it would make the game bad.

Yeah, remember Team Rifles on Ascension? With the Banshee? And no rocket launcher?

Multiply by that by 10,000, make it on every multiplayer stage, and still tell yourself that sounds like a cool idea.

Perhaps the ability to toggle would be okay, but destruction should be defaulted to On. You can still get six people assualt the flag only in H2 you have to be good enough to jack it from the other team. Some have the skill, some lack it.
