“Strange,” mused the Director, as they turned away, “strange to think that even in Our Ford’s day most games were played without more apparatus than a ball or two and a few sticks and perhaps a bit of netting. imagine the folly of allowing people to play elaborate games which do nothing whatever to increase consumption.”

That isn't trolling, that is theft. Which is a punishable crime.

Why do you make the assumption that all trolls hate? Not to mention that the person who hacked your account is not a troll but, well ...... some idiotic hacker. There is a difference between the two.

It's not, man. Every forum has trolls. With a high profile game like Halo, the pool of people to target is much larger, whether it be to force rage or to actually cause harm. Look for less and less of that here now that the Halo business isn't handled here. Always be careful, though. Vary up passwords, email addresses, use security verification techniques, etc. I work on encryption and security a lot on the side, and you'd be surprised how often these things happen through simple methods.

This, and you weren't "hacked", OP, you were stupid enough to give him your password. That's not hacking. That's you being a dumbass.

I'm not sure you realize how most of these happen. Most of these "hackers" (They don't really hack at all) are using the features used to help a user regain access to their accounts. That's why you should never use easily accessible information or pre-made security questions. That said, he probably didn't give them his password, it was probably just done using social engineering.

An IP address is just a numerical identification of where you are located on a network, they do not store your personal information at all. More likely they phished your account details and just recovered your account then told you some story of the "Uber l33t H4x" moves they used. :')

This is impossible. An IP address carries absolutely no personal information. Your IP address does not allow you to be "hacked". It is solely a numerically based identifier used to name and route data to you. Unless they got a trojan onto your system and used your IP to gain access to it (Which hasn't been used since the early 2000s since most now work backwards), you were not hacked. They either got into your e-mail address through recovery options or they got enough information about you to convince a rep that it's your account. There is absolutely no way they hacked you by stealing your IP.

That's not called hacking. That's called a Denial of Service attack, also known as a DoS attack or IP Flood, in which he sent tons of fake packets, using your IP Address, to stifle your network. If a DoS attack is successful, it'll lead to your Internet being, for the lack of a better layman word, "merked". Tons of 404 errors coming from that. Sounds like he was just an awful human. Your account wasn't hacked through that, though.

If anything, it sounds like he DoS'ed you and while you were offline, he got the information he needed and time he needed to pull all of this off without you having a chance to change anything.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC
