As bad as this sounds, it would make them far more exclusive. If creating a group actually required work -- and upkeep -- then more people would be involved in each group.

The other problem is lack of advertising. Bungie never gives the private groups recognition. Because groups essentially rely on annoying spam PM's and Classified's spamming, they're never get any good recognition. Because Bungie is "dark" they should just get involved with their community. They should have semi-weekly updates where they essentially talk about what's going on and what private groups are doing well.

That's my take on them.

Hard is good.

What do you mean "actually required work"?

It's so hard to make a successful group unless you have an actual unique idea or have a horde of babbling sycophants running after you

Can't be too careful with your company. I can feel the devil walking next to me.

Groups need to have a focus or they die. There's no need for a permit, just a need for an idea.

Ad Infinitum

Permits for private groups? No.

Bungie should be more involved with their community? Bungie is involved with us. How can they not be? I enjoy the Sack. I enjoy reading about the Community Ride Alongs (even though I've never been in one..).

Bungie is in the middle of developing something cool. Why would they disclose sensitive information with us?

What do you mean by "what private groups are doing well"

Have you seen my mind anywhere? I seem to have lost it...

0x0 x0x 0x0 000 000 x0x 000
x0x 0x0 0x0 0xx 000 0x0 000
x0x x0x x00 0xx 0x0 x0x 0x0

I have seen you future

The idea of the private group system is that anybody can come and have their own space here on B.net. Permits would destroy that idea, plus somebody would have to sift through the applications.

As for the advertising, it would be great if there was a more effective way to advertise the groups.

I personally think you should be free to start your own private group whenever you want. Furthermore, I do agree with your point about Private Group advertising but that begs the question, what about Humpdays?

I know they're basically dead now but in the future (with Bungie's new IP and whatnot)... Why can't Humpdays come back? I don't see why they can't and I think we all agree we'd love to see them come back. Only time will tell.

People should be free to make a group when and if they want to. With this it becomes their responsibility to keep their group active by actually putting in the work.

If a group leader has to be incentivized to put in the work to be successful, then to be honest, they probably aren't the kind of person who should be a group leader in the first place.

What does this have to do with a permit? What do you mean by permit? I honestly do not understand what you are saying in this post.

No, private groups are fine as they are.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Clearly we are the stage of bungie darkness where all the strange ideas surface. OP.... I agree 100% and wish you luck on your quest to make us get permits.

If you don't pay Bungie for your group's permit every month, they break your kneecaps with a lead pipe.

If I am not posting, then I am reading what you might have posted.

Some of your ideas sound good, but the groups are fine the way they are, I rather not have more "Work" for a site that I come to visit and read the stuff in the groups that I am with, and to "work" for that sounds silly. No, thanks. But the idea of giving recognition to groups is a real big yes with me!

I lol'd at the absurd miscommunication that occurs whenever dibbs post something. Perhaps his brain is so highly evolved that he can no longer clearly communicate with lesser life forms, even among his own species.

And the fantastic ideas keep on coming.

Or no one would bother to make a group at all. The nice thing about groups is that "permit" or not, they depend entirely on how willing the people in it to discuss whatever outlet the group is tailored to. Activity doesn't necessarily correlate with involvement; you can put in a lot of work and get involved with every conversation or just hang back and read the thoughts of everyone else (this is especially true in groups where people come to learn).

Contribution on this website should never have to feel like a job (submitting a proposal, waiting for someone to accept it based on a predefined criteria which determine "success", creating a long term plan that outlines and expands upon ideas for growth and development, etc.) and the relationships you build here shouldn't be asterisked with "So long as Bungie approves". But hey, if your proposal was accepted, at least we would have a handful of active successful groups with topics so broad they would essentially be the Flood sans posting restrictions. Surely the activity and involvement of those few would be worth destroying every other group.
