It's simple, really.

The President and Government of the Human empire are secretly working in cahoots with the Covenant in a state of perpetual warfare. Allthough the Covenant may appear to be kickin' tail, the pendulum will "mircaulously" swing the other way, in the Human's favor, until a homeworld of one species of the Covenant is reached. Then, the Covenant will regain the upper hand, and so on and so on, with neither side accually winning or losing.

This is done in order to keep the High in power. With contant warfare, all food and supplies can be diverted to the "war effort," keeping the Middle and (especially) the Low in a contant state of desparation, surviving only on Goverment (or High Council) handouts that are just enough to keep you alive and hungry. For, when one is starving, and the government gives you food, one really does not care what party is in power.

The first to get the reference gets a cookie.

AAARRRGH!!!! i know this one!!! we had a whole debate on it in school!!! but. i can't. remember. ARGH!!!

Makes sense, so aside from some spelling and grammer issues, good work.

I smell politics...........................

Or it could be the pile of dog -blam!- in my yard.........but really the two aren't different at all.......................

Politics - opionated dicussion about government

Fact- the US is a capitalist nation
Fact- Communism is a form of government that has rapidly depleted throughout the wrld so it has hence failed.
Fact- Iran has Uranium, we just dont know if it is weaponized.

presenting facts is not against bungie rules. My statemnts are as political as saying that the US has retired the Stealth Fighter (which it has)

fact- you are a bush hater

and i saw on the news something about a stealth rocket that was launched in Iran...WWIII

UN: "oh no...there are civillians in iran"

USA: KISS MY ASS....tatatatatataboembooooooomm

3 days later

UN: thank you for saving the world USA!!!

USA: you're welcome...

LOLOLOL

This is hilarious. As for the post, a little far fetched don't you think? I can make up BS future stories as well...the world is frozen in a ball of ice until it collides with the sun in 2450 and then thaws out and bam...there you go

I've thought about the fact that maybe they just didn't care enough about their military. I mean, we don't really have a space military. So what if we were attacked by the covenant right now? Not to mention everyone in the future is going to be lazy and we'll probobly de-evolutionize a little bit in the area of physical prowess and marksman ability, besides the people who play video games...and still manage to work out and stuff.

Oh, and on the gasoline...this is our future of gasoline:
HHO

Uh, how about becuase bullets are cool and Bungie (rightly) wanted to have most of the guns shoot bullets? I think that's the best Halo theory I've ever heard....

dude.......sit down, relax and have a beer, because you have no idea what your on about and your goin to draw alot of attention to yourself by sayin stuff like that. im having a really hard time holding myself back from letting loose on you.

as for the guy who started this thread, the original concept was tom clancy good, then you said space and it turned into a second rate sci fi thing. but damn, i would love someone to write a novel (clancy spy style) about the whole iran/ middle east power politics thing

your right man.

theres only 2 outcomes.
1) we get man slapped and we become history
or
2) we win and the invaders come back some time later with ALOT more firepower and then we we get an even bigger man slap and we loose

Guys, dont mean to be racist, but after reading the first few posts... especially the loser there that said

"UN: THERE ARE CIVILIANS IN IRAN/IRAQ"
"USA: KISS MY..."

that guy should be banned first of all, what a bloody loser... Dude, stop thinking of urself as high and mighty mate. People are entitled to there opinions. Isn't that the first ammendment in the Constitution?

Bungie, ban that loser please.

I am not american, nor do i agree with the war on iraq. I do understand USA lost a big chunk of pride in that attack on September 11. I know alot of friends who knew people who died on that day. 1 even knows 1 of the passengers on the plane that hit.

Lest we forget.
But still, thats not a reason to go shooting innocent people

and ontopic...
I agree with the others, just trying to make the game more fun. Imagine a game where u had to press a button in the haste of Nuclear Negotiations? Everything would be over in a second... YOU LOSE... U FAILED TO NEGOTIATE. Death Toll: Everyone + 1.

Well this kind of sounds believable, but it kind of sounds silly since you seem a little too detailed and specific about it.

Maybe a simple "Constant warefare between the world has hurt the progress of Earth" would have been more appropriate.

Good theory, though.

Well I could drop few things here:

1. Wars are over. Humanity no more needs as technologically advanced weaponry as they used to need.

2. Next Generation weapons were Spartans. Cabable to fight in everywhere without doing collateral damage.

3. Over-population pushed us/ UNSC/ UEG to create ships that were able to travel FTL, so every resources were divided between population and ship /engine design.

4. Possible battles were decided in space with ships firing missiles that would easily take out possible threats.

5. Covenant vs UNSC is like comparing modern day army (not US army/ Marines, because they arent as good as people think) to those indians in western. You think they would stand a change?

6. WMD's were great devices to keep people in line. Unlike Covenant, humans didn't have weapons to fight against possible WMD attack. Covenant shields are cabable to take head-on assault from Nukes and survive.

A Guide to Networking, Matchmaking, and Host in Halo (HBO mirror)

Bungie Friends and Family invitee, and sender of "random emails" about networking.

Think about it, in the Halo universe, humanity has dramatically improved in tecnology. Here are a few of the inventions/discoveries:

Fusion Power
Cloning techniques
Medicine
Greatly increased understanding of human biochemistry and how the body functions
Terraforming
FLT travel
Spacefaring
Artificial Intelligence

And that's not going into much detail. So whilst some things seem rather archaic for the time (which makes things a lot more interestign), humanity has dramatically improved in many areas of science, which currently are far far away.

My dad once pointed out that war and conflict often forces us o be inventive ( like the radar, and the umm...nuclear bomb).

War and conflict is only going to force us to come up with better things: especially things that go boom, which is relevant to this topic. I think the idea that future warfare would become so advanced, that it would involve much physical force, sounds good. Hence, humans neglected to advance their military.

I recon there must have been some sort of tecnological apocalypse, and we became (modern day) cave men. So we had to start all over again.

There's actually a much longer and more detailed 'official' backstory up at HBO.

It does incorporate Communist/Socialist v Capitalist themes, but not in this way.

July 15, 2008... The day the timer stood still.

Actually, the flip side of capitolism is socialism. We just had a big debate over the two in school. Socialism is different from commuinism. It's the same because of its equality, but its still different... Actually, when you think about it a bit, socialism isn't too bad. Ok, im gonna stop talking now in case the banhammer is on top of me.
