I'd like to add to the politicism of this thread by replying to SpecOps527's post.
Let me say first that I have the deepest respect for anybody that puts their life on the line during battle. However, I have no respect for posters on the internet who spend no time thinking of what they are writing about and just type. These types of people are insults to our fine nation's educational system.
I am not necissarily calling you a complete idiot as you do have some legitimate points and you are standing up for what you believe... a repsectable action to take, but you have argued in the typical American "I am better than everyone" perspective and have slammed a guy in an inappropriate manner who did think out his post... so let me tear your's apart.
Who saved you from the -blam!-s? How did that happen, we fought Germany when they invaded other european countries,
First of all, the poster you are replying to never disclosed his actualy location... in fact, if I had a guess, I would say he's from Australia: a country that had no involvment in WWII (I say this because the beginning of his tag line is 'Aust'... only a guess though). Secondly, it is a very pious thing to say that the Americans completely drove Hitler out of France and other European countries. Yes, we were a large turning point, but other events also aided in the fall of the facists. Rommel's defeat in Africa, for example, killed Hitler's campaign down there along with his quest for oil. This was a huge defeat accomplished by the British. The other HUGE turning point was in the east. When the Soviets drove out Hitler from Moscow and Stalingrad during the second coldest winter ever, they drove him clear accross Poland and all the way into Berlin. Regardless of American involvment, WWII would have ended. True, it would have been in favor of one of the most evil men of all time (Stalin), but, once again, the Americans weren't soley responsible for the downfall of -blam!- (probably a blammed word) Germany.
Look into the faces of the people in Iraq and see how they smile and wave when US tanks and troops march past them, just like you Brits did in WWII.
Very arguable statement. Yes, there are many people in Iraq who are happy to see American troops, but at the same time, many of them are not happy with our long-term occupance. Also note the high rate of insurgency in the country. On another note, the British resented the fact we had come to their aid. The British government was quote pleased (even though we were already giving them aid in the form of weapons), but many citizens didn't want us to be there and would rather have fought off the Germans themselves... they knew (as well as we know now) that England would never be conquered just as it had never been in the past.
Now it's Iraq invading other countries and we stopped them and are demilitarizing them, as we did Germany.
Iraq hasn't invaded another country for 15 years. We left after their occupance was relieved under the council of the United Nations. We stopped them a long time ago. We never demilitirized them, however, nor are we now. In fact, currently our job IS to militirize them within their own borders (for police forces, etc.).
When a country must be destroyed, destroy it. I would not blow up Iraq just yet, but if there are still sporadic guerilla attack and car bombs that are killing innocent people anyway and even americans, Bombs should be dropped, evacute any people who can be proven innocent and women and children, and bomb the country.
While we're at it, why don't we blow up Somalia, Columbia, Venezuala, Cuba, Libya, North Korea, Iran, Bosnia-Hertegovania [sp?], Vietnam, Pakistan, China, and any other country that offers a mutual threat. The percent of insurgents is relatively low to be completely honest... and killing MILLIONS of people to destroy a small group of terrorists. Note, however that these people aren't even the ones responsible for the 9/11 attacks... in some ways these insurgents can be compared to American patriots---they are only trying to defend what they believe is right by using guerilla warfare (the most effective tactic in an urban environment). I can't say I like it, but I am also swayed by American propoganda and bias--as are you. As for the bombing, note that we never attacked Tokyo, but rather two fairly unpopulated cities (comparitively). Also note that we were against a government that was dedicating its military sources to our downfall... in Iraq there is nobody capable of surrendering... we are battling against a small group of unorganized insurgents who offer little to no threat to our nation within their small terrorist cells. And how is it you plan to evacuate all of these innocents and what method would you like to use to screen everyone?
I am sorry to say, but the middle east has gone down the potty. Britain sucks and so does anybody anti-US
Do me a favor and actually think. Look and realize that America houses well under 8% of the world's population. You are the typical American in thinking that you are better than everyone else and you are always right. Open your eyes and look around... some people have other ideas---that doesn't make them better or worse. It is one thing to be proud to be an American--it is another to be an anti-humanist. The Middle East also isn't all that bad... look at Isreal. They are in a time of turmoil, no doubt, but that is still not a reason to bomb them.
By the way, feel free to thank the British--they have done nothing to you (in fact, their government is supporting the war in Iraq) and are mostly resposible for your being in the United States today via colonization.
