Hey thanks for all the replies... seems most so far think it'd be sweet.

I'm aware that the 360 allows a player to listen to music from their harddrive but my notion is based around the idea of the music being a standard option for the driver of the hog; with other players in the game being able to hear the music via proximity.

The copyright issue is a damn fine point... didn't think of that.

Maybe the only way to do it would be if Bungie could install 'Bungie Radio' as standard in the Hog; kind of like Grand Theft Auto as somebody said earlier.

Don't know if that would still cause lag? Not if it's part of the game disc right?

Maybe some Halo specific 'battle rap/hip-hop', 'battle rock' and 'easy listening' (for the ladies in the passenger seat)

Warthog... with Bungie radio as standard.... oh yes.

Whilst I'm at it... I also had one other idea (not as good but still pretty good.... I hope)

Okay... here it is:

There should be a specific button combo that makes the MC in multiplayer do a totally over-the-top taunting gesture. Basically, imagine some ridiculous hand movement or something like that. Can't get more specific but basically an amination that serves no other purpose other than to taunt your opponents... a kind of substitute for the classic teabag...

Can't think of a specific gesture though.

They should put the pelican in just so you could play "Ride of the Valkyries" from it.

how about when YOU enter the hog, a foot comes out and kicks you in the ass for saying something so dumb.

XBox 360 supoorts custom soundtracks on all games already, so you can listen to any music you want anytime, without Bungie worrying about copyrights! wow.... what a great idea...

Of course you can. BUT. Instead you can annoy the hell out of your opponents more by blaring the music directly from the hog. Everybody can suffe-..er...ENJOY your music.

okay okay i like the idea. i can just see master chieft sitting there before war putting 26 inch DUBs and hydrolics on his Hog and Sarge screaming PIMP MY HOG....

and then the look on the aliens faces when they see this:

that gets my vote as the worst and funniest piece of photoshop ever.

your idea rocked, but it just doesnt seem Bungie it is more Rockstar or Rare.
AN if you put your headset near your speakers you can play the music, can only people near-by could here it.

I think they should partner with ITunes or something so you can get alot of songs for like 10 cents each for use in-game only. That way when everyone in the game is hearing the same song, it comes from the server and not from your machine.

that would be awesome. you can go to the Xbox 360 screen where you can play music during the game an select one of your own songs or a list of songs can be put in the game that can be played by anyone.

Imagine getting splattered by a guy listening to the Barney song, man that must hurt your morale...

Hogs don't have radios...

Exactly, and it's a damn shame.

Anyway, I don't think the whole 'Bungie Radio' thing would work in campaign at all... only suitable for multiplayer.

The campaign's atmosphere would be ruined if, following some deep and intricate story development, you get in the Hog and switch on 'Purple Haze'....just wouldn't fit in with the Halo campaign environ!!! Marty rules over all in this department and nothing in the world should change that.

Multiplayer however... well that's where I think it really would add something.

Let's face it. Campaign is where we get immersed in the role of Master Chief in his efforts to save humanity from a terrible end.

Multiplayer is a load of stupid fun....in fact....THE best stupid fun EVER.

Even having fun though people can get tense. This is one of the main reasons a Hog needs a radio. Sure....battle music will be needed to get your team (or yourself) prepped for the combat ahead, or to strike fear into the enemy. But it's also important to have music to reflect to, to contemplate the serious things in life to....music that inspires you to say "Godamnit... I'm glad I'm alive and I'm glad this Hog has a radio"

Also, with growing numbers of female Halo players, it's important 'Bungie Radio' has some 'easy listening/making-out tunes'. This way you can take a Lady Spartan out into the caves on the new Coagulation (ish) map and ...well.... get to know her better.

Finally, it's very likely the marines fitted most Hogs with custom boom-boxes etc. What self-respecting marine/combat infantry soldier would drive around inbetween battles with NO MUSIC in his wheels? Aint gonna happen.

With a Xbox 360 control you could maybe do it on halo 2 with load music playing and holding down the left bumper so it goes thought the mic
it would be hard to steer on the old controls

edit: i don't have xbox live so i don't know if it would work

Just another comment...

Although Halo Multiplayer is indeed a 'load of stupid fun' it can also be a quasi-serious competitive sport.

My opinion (and hunch) is that Halo 3 multiplayer will add so much depth to the already rich experience that is Halo 2 that the whole 'sport' aspect of FPS will really begin to fulfill its potential.

Now... what does this have to do with a radio in the Hog.

Well. Nothing. It wouldn't affect MLG gamers. The reason being most team/FFA games in MLG will be very unlikely to take place on large maps with vehicles. Basically, MLG remains free from the impractical 'Bungie Radio' function.

The whole 'Bungie Radio' idea for the Hog aint gonna happen anyway... still... it's fun to speculate so what the hell.

NIce Apocalypse Now reference.

Yeah this is an awesome idea and totally doable, but not to be a naysayer or anything, this idea has been around for ages. I even posted it back when all these threads were being made for Halo 2, and I'm sure I wasn't the first.

But yeah, i would love to be playing something like Turd on the Run (Rolling Stones) through the Warthogs speakers while just driving across a huge map. Look the song up, it's perfect for that scenario.

Why is it the whole world is celebrating the release of Halo3 except Bungie's Halo 3 forums?

AceDauntless officiaclly declares this the most AWESOME idea for multiplayer idea yet. That would be teh hottest haxprz eva!!! I can see it now, charging the base with some uber heavy meatal song totally pwning and teh nooobs wud be lik ZOMG WTF??? HAXPRZ????????????????????????

and that is exactly what would happen.

all spelling errors intentional

Good idea, except.....

Wouldn't Bungie need copywrites?
No, if it's from your harddrive like the GTA games...

Ok, but here are the restrictions that are needed:

ABSOLUTELY NONE OF:
Heavy Metal
Goth Metal
Metal, in general.
Rap
Hip/Hop
Country

"Not really. They eat their wounded."
"Just like chiropractors!" Caboose - funny -blam!-

"If god is love, then you can call me cupid" Sarge.

Whispering marine - "you'll give away our position!"
sarge - "I'll do as i damn well please!" (kills grunt with sniper rifle)
elites rule, MCs r cool

Maybe they could just have a theme tune for each game type which you can choose to listen to or not. i feel that would be easier and, for team snipers you could have MC hammer with can't touch this. Or even can't snipe this. da duh duh duh da duh da duh can't snipe this. ha, i crack myself up

You wouldn't need to buy rights, jeeze.

Tons of games let you use custom soundtracks, this wouldn't be any different. Just put music on your hard drive, or connect an MP3 player or PC up to your 360, and there you go, the music streams through the game. You don't need the copyrights becuase Bungie isn't packaging the music with the game, and therefore isn't making money off of it. You're using your own music.
